THE TING TINGS - THAT'S NOT MY NAME (2009) hit #39

August 31st 2009 - my #3 favorite daily song for 39 days at age 38 living at Ave M South with Valerie now married 2 years and I had been performing the Dueling Pianos show for 2 months.

That’s Not My Name" is the third single by British duo The Ting Tings from their debut studio album We Started Nothing. Vocalist Katie White states that the song was written "with me ranting about my frustrations with the record industry." The song was originally released as a double A-side with "Great DJ" by independent record label Switchflicker Records on 28 May 2007. After heavy promotion and support from BBC Radio 1 and the NME, the single was re-released individually on 12 May 2008 on Columbia Records.

"That's Not My Name" went to number one in the United Kingdom on 18 May 2008, seeing off competition from well-established acts like Rihanna, Madonna and will.i.am. The following week, however, the single was replaced by Rihanna's single "Take a Bow" at number one. The song was a sleeper hit in North America for about five months before finally becoming a Top 40 hit on the charts. The single has sold over a million digital copies

The song also had top ten success, peaking at number one in Australia, The Netherlands and some U.S. sub charts, while scoring the top ten in Canada, New Zealand, Italy and other countries. The music video was released for the single, which features Perry and actor Joel David Moore where it features the couple in Vegas partying and gambling. The video was a success worldwide, scoring around 37 million views, but 17 pre-vevo.

In the US, it debuted at number 65 on the Billboard Hot 100. Following her performance on American Idol, the song jumped to number 13 and remained in the top 15 for the following three months, peaking at number nine.     SHINEDOWN - SECOND CHANCE (2009) hit #7
Second Chance"" is a song by American hard rock band Shinedown and the second single from their 2008 album, The Sound of Madness. However, the song is not included on the UK release of The Sound of Madness. It was released on September 9, 2008 and has become Shinedown's most successful single.

The song has been used in promotion for the second season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and the 2008 WWE Tribute to the Troops show. In May 2009, "Second Chance" was used in a promo regarding the return of character Michael Corinthos on ABC's daytime drama General Hospital. It was released on DLC as part of a 3-song pack on Guitar Hero 5 and also for Rock Band 3.

Two versions exist -- a rock version, which is the album version, and a pop version (notably played on Sirius XM Radio's Adult Top 40-formatted The Pulse satellite radio channel), which is a remix, although the harder guitars start in the second verse in the song rather than at the second half of the first verse.

"Second Chance" is, by far, Shinedown's biggest hit to date. It has reached #1 on Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, Hot Modern Rock Tracks, and Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks charts (their first #1 on this chart), making it the band's first song to top multiple charts. It is only the third song to top all three of those charts, the other two being "One Headlight" by The Wallflowers and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" by Green Day. On the Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at #7, making it not only their first top-40 single to date ("I Dare You" was their first Hot 100 single in 2006), but also their first top-10 single. It's also their debut single on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart, debuting at #29. On Mainstream Top 40 radio, the song has done exceptionally well for a rock song, peaking within the top three there at #3. It is their first charting single on the Canadian Hot 100 as well, so far peaking at #32.

Overall, "Second Chance" is Shinedown's third of six singles to top the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart to date, having spent 10 weeks at #1 beginning December 27, 2008. On the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart, it is their only #1 single to date, having spent three non-consecutive weeks at #1 beginning February 14, 2009.

On March 29, 2009, "Second Chance" debuted at #20 on the VH1 Top 20 Video Countdown, becoming their first video to ever debut on the show, and on May 16, "Second Chance" hit #1; Brent & Barry, the guests on the show at the time, introduced it themselves. It was later #1 a second time on June 20.

On 13 November, it was announced that "Meet Me Halfway" was outselling its nearest competition, "Happy" by Leona Lewis, and was on course to reaching #1. My wife bought scalped tickets for about $250 a ticket.  We took a $120.00 cab ride from Times Square to the concert which was far south east.  We had main floor seats and the show was full of theatrical and unusual performances but was the highlight of the trip for me as I had become such a fan of hers since Bad Romance and Telephone became two of my favorites the year before.

March 1st 2009 - my #2 favorite daily song for 31 days at age 38 living at Ave M South with Valerie now married 18 months and Nicholas is almost 3.

Shattered (Turn the Car Around)" is the second single and second track from O.A.R.'s sixth studio album, All Sides. It is their biggest hit to date, surpassing "Love and Memories". It is the band's first charting single, peaking at #36 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was also used in an advertisement for the BlackBerry Storm.

The refrain (in parentheses above) is a metaphor that refers to the singer's self-nullifying habit of returning to a harmful relationship because of his inability to completely break free and move on with his life.

The video, shot in July 2008 was directed by Danny Clinch. It consists of stop-motion, blurred footage of lead singer Marc Roberge walking around New York City. It also includes footage of the band performing the song atop a building and Roberge standing in the rain

O.A.R. (short for Of a Revolution) is an American rock band composed of Marc Roberge (vocals, guitar), Chris Culos (drums, percussion), Richard On (lead guitar, backing vocals), Benj Gershman (bass guitar), and Jerry DePizzo (saxophone, guitar, percussion, backing vocals). Due to massive online distribution over campus networks, the band has become a hit among college students, with many songs relating to the band members' personal lives at Thomas S. Wootton High School, growing up in Rockville, Maryland and attending The Ohio State University

DAVID COOK - LIGHT ON (2009)
Light On" is the first official single released from American Idol season 7 winner David Cook's major label debut studio album, David Cook. The single has been certified Platinum by the RIAA.

"Light On" was co-written by Soundgarden and Audioslave front man Chris Cornell, as well as famed producer/songwriter Brian Howes. The song was produced by Grammy winning producer Rob Cavallo, who has produced hits for Green Day and Kid Rock. The song also displays Cook's powerful upper register, with the singer hitting a high C at the end of each verse.

The song's lyrics were posted on Cook's official website on September 22, 2008. "Light On" officially debuted on AOL Music's PopEater section on September 23, 2008. It became available for radio airplay later on the 23rd, but officially went for adds on Mainstream Top 40, AC, and Rock radio on October 13, 2008. It was released iTunes and Amazon on September 30, 2008.

Reception of "Light On" was generally positive to mixed.

Billboard's Chuck Taylor gave a very favorable review saying "melodically, there's no question that this bullet is heading right for the brain, where the only thing stickier than the chorus is Cook's appreciably sweaty performance." He predicted success for Cook, stating "Like Chris Daughtry before him, here's an Idol who is bound for true rock cred", summing it up with "Light On" is right on."
