  DESTINY'S CHILD - SAY MY NAME (2000)

Album: The Writings On The Wall (1999)

March 11th 2000 - my #1 favorite song in the top 40 for 15 weeks - my #2 favorite top 40 hit of 2000

March 29th 2000 - my #1 favorite daily song for 93 days straight. #2 favorite daily song of 2000.

This was the first song I really liked by them as I was really paying attention to music for the first time in about 8 years in a new digital age I was back to collecting music full time by downloading all the latest hits in mp3 format for the first time. This song featured Beyonce who was not yet a recognized name. The chorus is so catchy and it had me hooked so I would play the song over and over again.

"Say My Name" is a song by American R&B group Destiny's Child. The song was the third single from the group's 1999 album The Writing's on the Wall, released through Columbia label in 2000. The single is the most successful of the four releases from the album and is considered to be one of their signature songs. The song won awards for "Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals" and "Best R&B Song" and two was nominated for "Record of the Year" and "Song of the Year" at the 2001 Grammy Awards and an MTV Video Music Award. It is the first single to introduce the second lineup featuring newly added members Michelle Williams and Farrah Franklin. However, their vocals are not present on the single. In October 2011, NME placed it at number 58 on its list "150 Best Tracks of the Past 15 Years
  JANET JACKSON - DOESN'T REALLY MATTER (2000)

Album: All For You (2001)

July 22nd 2000 - my #1 song in the top 40 for 18 weeks straight making it my #1 favorite top 40 hit of 2000. Such great catchy hooks throughout the verses and chorus.

July 25th 2000 - my #1 favorite daily song for 45 days when I was 29. This was the 3rd and last time she had my #1 daily song. It was my #4 favorite daily song of 2000. It was my favorite song when I moved from Saskatoon to Dalmeny, SK to live with my girlfriend for the next 3 years.

"Doesn't Really Matter" is a song recorded by American R&B-pop singer Janet Jackson for the soundtrack to the 2000 film Nutty Professor II: The Klumps. Released as a single in May 2000, a slightly modified version of the track later appeared on Jackson's seventh studio album, All for You, which was released nearly a year later in April 2001. The song hit #1 in USA and #2 in Canada in 2000.

THE DIXIE CHICKS - COWBOY TAKE ME AWAY (2000)

Album: Fly (2000)

February 19th 2000 - my #1 favorite current top 40 hit for 3 weeks

March 9th 2000 - my #2 favorite daily song for 20 day at age 19 while on the road performing.

The Dixie Chicks are an American country music band which has also successfully crossed over into other genres. The band is composed of founding members (and sisters) Martie Erwin Maguire and Emily Erwin Robison, and lead singer Natalie Maines. The band formed in 1989 in Dallas, Texas and was originally composed of four women performing bluegrass and country music, busking and touring the bluegrass festival circuits and small venues for six years without attracting a major label. After the departure of one bandmate, the replacement of their lead singer, and a slight change in their repertoire, the Dixie Chicks soon achieved commercial success, beginning in 1998 with hit songs "There's Your Trouble" and "Wide Open Spaces

"Cowboy Take Me Away" is the title of a song recorded by American country group the Dixie Chicks. It was released in November 1999 as a single from their album, Fly. The song's title is derived from a famous slogan used in commercials for Calgon bath and beauty products. It reached Number One on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in February 2000.

ALICE DEEJAY - BETTER OFF ALONE (1999)

Album: Who Needs Guitars Anyway (1998)

I started paying real attention to current top 40 songs in 2000 after a 7 year break and this one of the first ones I loved playing over and over again which had been downloaded on Napster which took 30 minutes to download 1 song back then.

June 30th 2000 - my #3 favorite daily song for 25 days

Better Off Alone" is the title of a song by Dutch eurodance group Alice DeeJay. It was released in July 1998 as the lead single from their debut album Who Needs Guitars Anyway?. It was originally written and released in 1998, on a Canadian label (ISBA Music Entertainment Inc.) but was re-released in 1999 by Positiva Records, Universal and Republic

Pronk changed her stagename to Alice DeeJay after the track was released. The track was released to dance clubs and became an international hit in clubs reaching number 2 on the Billboard club charts and a top ten club chart worldwide. The song then became a hit reaching #2 in Canada, #27 in the U.S., and #2 in the UK. It went on to sell over 600,000 copies in the UK and become one of the country's best-selling singles of 1999. The song was in the top 100 bestselling singles in Australia for 2000 as compiled by the Australian Recording Industry Association

JESSICA SIMPSON - I THINK I'M IN LOVE WITH YOU (2000) hit #21
I Think I'm in Love with You" is a song written and produced by Cory Rooney and Dan Shea for Jessica Simpson's debut album Sweet Kisses (1999). It contains a sample of singer-songwriter John Mellencamp's "Jack and Diane" (1982) and was released as the album's third and final single in summer 2000 (see 2000 in music). The song's protagonist declares "Boy I think that I'm in love with you, got me doin' silly things when it comes to you". The single peaked at number ten on Australia and top-twenty on Canada, UK and New Zealand. In United States reached at number twenty-one.

"I Think I'm In Love With You" was more up tempo than Simpson's previous singles and became a moderate hit. In the United States, the single debuted at number sixty-three on the Billboard Hot 100, on the issue dated July 1, 2000. Due largely on the strength of its radio airplay, the song peaked at number twenty-one in its seventh week and stayed on the chart for sixteen weeks. The single reached number five on Billboard Pop Songs and stayed on chart for twenty-two weeks. "I Think I'm In Love With You" was her first top-five on the chart. Also achieved success on the Adult Contemporary and Rhythmic Top 40 charts.

In Canada, "I Think I'm In Love With You" reached the top-twenty, peaking at number fourteen. It became her second top-twenty in that country. The song also reached number two on the Canada RPM Singles Chart and was her highest peak at the time. The song stayed on the chart for twenty weeks. In Australia, the single debuted at number thirty on the ARIA Charts during the week of June 25, 2000. Five weeks later, it reached number ten and was her second top-ten there. The single stayed on the chart for fifteen weeks. It was later certified gold by Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), denoting shipments of 35,000 units within the country. In New Zealand, the song debuted at number thirty-three on the issue of August 6, 2000. In its third week on the chart, the single peaked at number twenty.

In United Kingdom, "I Think I'm In Love With You" debuted at number fifteen on the UK Singles Chart for the week of July 15, 2000

    MATCHBOX TWENTY - BENT (2000) hit #1
Bent" is the first single from Mad Season, the second album by the rock band Matchbox Twenty. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on July 22, 2000, and stayed there for one week before being unseated by 'N Sync's "It's Gonna Be Me". It's currently the band's only number one hit on that chart.

This was Thomas' first attempt at a love song and he believes it is co-dependent of the 21st century. Thomas spoke on Storytellers that the song is about two people who are both messed up, but because they're together, it doesn't matter.

The song had an interesting reception in the UK market, as "bent" is a slang term synonymous with "gay": the chorus of the song contains the lyric "Can you help me? I'm bent." The song also contains suggestive lyrics in this vein: "Keep breaking me in", a slang term for being sexually penetrated.

Matchbox Twenty (originally spelled officially, and still sometimes known, as Matchbox 20) is an American rock band, formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1995. The group currently comprises Rob Thomas (lead vocals, piano), Paul Doucette (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Brian Yale (bass guitar), Kyle Cook (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Ryan MacMillan (drums, percussion).

Matchbox Twenty rose to international fame with their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You (1996), which was certified diamond in the United States and multi-platinum in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Their second album, Mad Season, released in 2000, charted in the top three on the Billboard 200 and was certified 4× platinum in the United States. Their third album, More Than You Think You Are, released in 2002, was certified double platinum in the United States. However, it was not as successful as the previous two albums, despite its singles receiving significant airplay.

HOKU - ANOTHER DUMB BLONDE (2000) hit #27
Another Dumb Blonde" is the first single from American pop/rock singer Hoku's eponymous debut album. The single is also featured on the soundtrack of the 2000 Nickelodeon movie, Snow Day and was also featured in the film itself. The single was released in January 2000.

The single peaked at number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Hoku's first to reach the Top 40. The song received moderate airplay in mainstream markets, but it was a big radio hit on radio stations meant for children such as Radio Disney.

Hōkū Christian Ho (born June 10, 1981), known simply as Hoku, is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and actress. She is the daughter of noted Hawaiian entertainer Don Ho. Her most popular singles are "Another Dumb Blonde," "How Do I Feel," and "Perfect Day."

Hoku's debut single "Another Dumb Blonde", which was certified Gold, appeared on the soundtrack to the movie Snow Day. She later appeared on a Nickelodeon special with many other stars, such as Britney Spears, 'N Sync, Sean Combs, and Aaron Carter. She also performed as a top billing performer in all of the Radio Disney Live! 2001 World Tour concerts across the United States.

In 2000, she released her self-titled, debut album. In 2001 she recorded the song "Perfect Day", which was used as the theme song to the feature film Legally Blonde. This song was later featured in both JCPenney and Sandals Resorts commercials.

Hoku was scheduled to record a second albulm with Geffen, but it would never happen. Hoku soon parted ways with her label, Geffen Records, because she did not want the image that the company created for her, which she felt went against her beliefs

SARA EVANS - BORN TO FLY (2000) hit #34 (#1 country)
Born to Fly" is the title of a song co-written and recorded by American country artist Sara Evans. The song was released in June 2000, and served as the lead-off single to her third studio album, Born to Fly. It became Evans' second Number One hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart in January 2001.

"Born to Fly" is an up tempo country song, co-written by Sara Evans with Marcus Hummon and Darrell Scott, that is backed primarily with fiddles. The song's narrator is portrayed as a person wanting to expand their horizons and dreams of being somebody, who is tired of being stuck in the same place, and wants to get out. The song makes analogies to a bird spreading its wings and flying to its new destination.

The album version features a long instrumental outro for the song.

The music video shows Evans portraying Dorothy, the main character from The Wizard of Oz motion picture. The video features many of the same story elements as the movie, such as a tornado, a wicked witch, and a little black dog. The video earned the Country Music Association Video of the Year award in 2001, Evans' first (and only as of 2011).

The music video was ranked #34 on CMT's 100 Greatest Videos.

"Born to Fly" debuted at number 59 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks for the week of July 1, 2000.

Sara Lynn Evans (born February 5, 1971) is an American country singer and songwriter. For her entire career, she has been signed to RCA Records Nashville.

    M2M - DON'T SAY YOU LOVE ME (2000) hit #21
Don't Say You Love Me" is a song recorded by pop band M2M in 1999. It was originally featured on the soundtrack to the movie Pokémon: The First Movie. The single had success in the United States, reaching No. 2 on US Billboard singles sales chart and reaching No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and being certified Gold, with shipments of over 700,000 copies. The song was also played on the television series Felicity and Beverly Hills, 90210

Radio Disney US began playing the song in November 1999, however it was not released and did not chart until early 2000. It was also released in Norway early in January, but was released slightly earlier elsewhere.

M2M was a pop music duo formed by two Norwegians, Marion Elise Raven and Marit Elisabeth Larsen. They released three albums under Warner Music Norway: Shades of Purple, The Big Room, and The Day You Went Away: The Best of M2M, a greatest hits album released by their record label after they disbanded.

Raven and Larsen come from Lřrenskog in the district east of Oslo. They had known each other since they were five. After starting to make their own songs, they were signed in 1998 to Atlantic Records. Their name "M2M" was chosen from a contest they held for fans to give a name for their band, as they had previously always been known as Marion & Marit. The group's first single, "Don't Say You Love Me", appeared in 1999, and was featured on the soundtrack of Pokémon: The First Movie (albeit with a small edit to the lyrics). The film helped the song to reach success worldwide, including peaking at No. 16 in the UK Singles Chart, their only hit in the UK. The duo released their first album, Shades of Purple, in 2000, which debuted at number one in Norway and several Asian countries and in the Top 40 in most other countries. In September that year, they toured with Hanson performing as the boys' opening act. Earlier in the year, they performed a concert special at Epcot in Walt Disney World, broadcast on April 29, 2000, under the name "M2M and BBMak in Concert", performing six songs with breaks in between of them walking around the park and seeing the sites.

THE BAHA MEN - WHO LET THE DOGS OUT (2000) hit #40
Who Let the Dogs Out?" is a song co-written and originally recorded by Anslem Douglas (titled "Doggie") for Trinidad and Tobago's Carnival season of 1998. It came to the attention of Steve Greenberg, who produced it with a group he was promoting called The Baha Men. The Baha Men covered the song and placed it in the movie Rugrats in Paris: The Movie and on its soundtrack album and then released it as a single in 2000, when it became the band's first hit in the US and the UK. It reached number 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and number 2 on the UK Singles Chart in the United Kingdom. It was the 4th biggest-selling single of 2000 in the UK, and went on to become one of the highest-selling singles of the decade not to reach number-one. It was also a big hit in Australia, where it reached number-one. The track went on to win the Grammy for Best Dance Recording on the 2001 Grammy Awards. It was the subject of a major lawsuit over copyright ownership that was settled.

In a poll conducted in 2007 by Rolling Stone to identify the 20 most annoying songs, this song was ranked third. It was also ranked first on Spinner's 2008 list of "Top 20 Worst Songs Ever". Most recently, in 2010, Matthew Wilkening of AOL Radio ranked the song at #2 on the list of the 100 Worst Songs Ever, exclaiming, "We try to forgive, but admit to daydreaming about supergluing an iPod with this [song] on it to Michael Vick's head."

The Anslem Douglas version was played throughout the English-speaking Caribbean and in cities with large Caribbean populations in 1998. After the Baha Men re-released the song, it became a ubiquitous sports anthem at stadiums and arenas throughout the world based largely on the efforts of a sports marketing company hired by the song's producer, Steve Greenberg. Pro Sports Music Marketing founder Frederic Traube introduced and marketed the song to sports stadiums, following the lead of Wingspan Records, which first introduced the song to the Mississippi State Bulldogs who made it there theme song.

The original U.S. version was released by Wingspan Records, a label owned by rapper Chuck Smooth and producer Scott Brooks, was a Top 10 Billboard Rap Single in 1999 before the Baha Men Version was recorded.

    LONESTAR - AMAZED (2000) hit #1
Amazed" is a song written by Marv Green, Aimee Mayo and Chris Lindsey. The first version of the song was recorded by the American country music group Lonestar, whose version was released in March 1999 as the second single from their 1999 album Lonely Grill. Lonestar's version is their longest-lasting Number One single and biggest hit, spending eight weeks at the top of the Billboard country singles charts. A remix later reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and #2 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks charts as well.   "Amazed" is in the key of A♭ major with a vocal range from F3 to A♭4.

Lonestar's rendition is the second single from their 1999 album Lonely Grill. The song spent eight consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart that same year. With this accomplishment, it set a record for the longest run at Number One on the country charts since the Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems was initiated in 1990. This run was later tied by Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett's 2003 single "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere", which spent eight non-consecutive weeks at Number One. "Amazed" spent 41 weeks on the country singles charts, giving it the second-longest chart run of any country single in the 1990s. In addition, the single crossed over into the pop airwaves entering the Billboard Hot 100 at #81. It peaked at #24 on before falling off the Hot 100.

"Amazed" was then remixed for pop radio (a tactic commonly used to present country-leaning songs to non-country audiences) and the new mix's popularity prompted the single to re-enter the Hot 100 at #45. On this second chart run, the remixed version helped the song hit #1 on March 4. In doing so, it became the first country song to top the pop charts since Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers' 1983 duet "Islands in the Stream". It also made Lonestar the first country band to place a song in the Top Ten of the Hot 100 year-end countdown. All remixes of the song made the single spend a combined total of 55 weeks in the Hot 100, and 41 weeks on Hot Country Singles & Tracks.   In the United Kingdom, Lonestar's version of "Amazed" reached a peak of #21 and spent 22 weeks in the charts. It spent 17 weeks in the top 40 without ever breaking into the top 20.

SISQO - THE THONG SONG (2000) hit #3
Thong Song" is the title of a song recorded by American R&B artist Sisqó. It was released in February 2000 as the second single from Sisqó's 1999 debut LP Unleash the Dragon, and was its second biggest hit. A remixed version featuring Foxy Brown of "Thong Song" was made exclusively for the 2000 film Nutty Professor II: The Klumps. It was covered in 2009 by the cast of Glee, for the TV series Glee. On 3 January 2010 Sisqó performed Thong Song just before he entered Celebrity Big Brother 7 as a housemate, and afterward it re-entered the chart at number 97. The song was also recently remixed by electronic music producer Elephantitan.    Inspired after attending his cousin Nelson's baptism, Sisqó set out to write "The Thong Song" shortly after, adding it to the list of singles he had already prepared for his hit album Unleash the Dragon.

The record celebrates, in a playful way, women who wear thong underwear and bikinis.

Mark Althavean Andrews (born November 9, 1978), known by his stage name Sisqó, is an American R&B singer, rapper, songwriter, dancer, record producer and actor. He is the lead singer of R&B group Dru Hill, and has also released solo material, including his successful first solo album Unleash the Dragon which included the hit single "Thong Song". After Woody Rock left Dru Hill in 1999 to pursue a solo career, it was decided that the other three members would do the same. Sisqó's solo debut, Unleash the Dragon, was released on Def Soul Records in November 1999. Unleash the Dragon sold moderately at first, until the February 2000 release of its second single, the novelty "Thong Song". A runaway hit, "Thong Song" and its follow-up, "Incomplete", were major hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with "Thong Song" making it to number three, and "Incomplete" going to #1. The success later got Sisqó a doll made of himself by Play Along Toys in 2001

DIXIE CHICKS - WITHOUT YOU (2000) hit #31 (#1 country)
Without You" is a song written by Eric Silver along with Natalie Maines, lead singer of the American country group the Dixie Chicks, who recorded the song for their 1999 album Fly. It was released as the album's fifth single in August 2000 and in January 2001, hit number one on the U.S. country singles chart. It also reached number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Written by lead singer Natalie Maines and country songwriter Eric Silver, "Without You" is on the surface one of the Chicks' more conventional efforts, lacking the "attitude" factor that distinguished them at the time. A ballad that directly speaks of lost love

After the departure of one bandmate, the replacement of their lead singer, and a slight change in their repertoire, the Dixie Chicks soon achieved commercial success, beginning in 1998 with hit songs "There's Your Trouble" and "Wide Open Spaces".

During a London concert ten days before the 2003 invasion of Iraq, lead vocalist Maines said, "we don't want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States [George W. Bush] is from Texas". The positive reaction to this statement from the British audience contrasted with the boycotts that ensued in the U.S., where "the band was assaulted by talk-show conservatives" while their albums were discarded in public protes

RICKY MARTIN - SHE BANGS (2000) hit #12
She Bangs" is a song performed by Ricky Martin, from his 2000 album Sound Loaded. An up-tempo, salsa-influenced song with double entendres about the singer's infatuation with a woman, Martin's recording earned him continued crossover success around the world.

The song was co-written by Desmond Child, who co-wrote Martin's number one hit "Livin' la Vida Loca" as well as several hits for Bon Jovi and other rock artists in the 1980s and '90s. Another co-writer was Martin's former Menudo bandmate Draco Rosa. The song was produced by Rosa and co-writer Walter Afanasieff; Afanasieff had won the previous year's Grammy Award for Song of the Year for producing Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On".

Sound Loaded was the follow-up to Martin's 1999 crossover breakthrough album Ricky Martin and "She Bangs" was released to radio in advance of the album as its first single. By 2000, the main Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Latin Songs charts had splintered into a myriad of sub-charts and the song became a hit on several of these, debuting on the Hot 100 and other charts beginning the week of October 7, 2000, and reaching its various chart peaks throughout November, December and January.

The song reached number twelve on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, while a Spanish language version reached number one on the Hot Latin Songs for one week. The song hit number one on the Tropical Songs chart for five weeks. The song also hit number two on the Latin Pop Songs chart, and number eight on the Hot 100 Airplay and Pop Songs charts. "She Bangs" went to number twenty-four on the Adult Pop Songs and number thirty on the Rhythmic Top 40. In December, remixes debuted on the Hot Dance Club Songs chart, ultimately peaking at number twenty-seven in January 2001. Although released long before the digital era, it has sold 152,000 digital copies in the US. The song also peaked at number two in Canada.

"She Bangs" was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance at the 43rd Grammy Awards. The Spanish version of the video won a Latin Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video at the Latin Grammy Awards of 2001 and Lo Nuestro Award for a Clip of the Year. "She Bangs" also won an International Dance Music Award for the Best Latin 12-inch Single.

    FILTER - TAKE A PICTURE (2000) hit #12
Take a Picture" was the second single from Filter's Title of Record. The song became a major hit during the start of 2000. It was the band's first departure from industrial rock.

The song's lush synthesized wall of sound and its lyrics, revolving around the chorus: "Could you take my picture? / 'Cause I won't remember", lends it a surreal and dreamlike aura. Filter's frontman, and founding member Richard Patrick has said that the song is about him getting drunk on an airplane, taking off all of his clothes, and fighting with the flight attendants who tried to stop him. This would account for the introductory, and later-repeated, lyrics: "Awake on my airplane, awake on my airplane...my skin is bare, my skin is theirs."

"Take a Picture" also features Patrick's petulant taunt: Hey, Dad, what do you think about your son now? Patrick's father was offended by this line, but Patrick explained to his father that each time he sings the line it has a different meaning because Patrick changes the tone in which he delivers the line each time it's sung.

A music video, directed by David Meyers, featured the band in a dreamlike sequence taking place in four different areas; a room being flooded by water, under the ocean with no scuba gear on, on a tiny rowboat in the middle of the ocean, and on the roof of a tiny cottage.

The song crossed over to Top 40 radio (it reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 on January 25, 2000, after reaching the Top 40 on December 14, 1999). It hit #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart on January 25. Remixes were provided by Club 69.

The song has been featured in numerous motion pictures, including The Girl Next Door, Saving Grace, Little Nicky and Pay It Forward. It is also a playable track in the music video game Band Hero.

"Independent Women" was a chart success in the United States. The single peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, during which Charlie's Angels just filled North American movie theaters. The feat gave the group their third number-one single in the country The single hold to the top position in the following week, which was seen as buoyed by the strong box office performance of the film and the heavy rotation it received. The song had a massive radio airplay, staying almost ten weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay, significantly contributing to the performance of the single on the main chart. Subsequently, the single spent eleven consecutive weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 top position. During its tenth week at the top spot, the music press had expected that the single would fall off the top position because of strong competition at retail; however, it sustained due to the high sales of the single's maxi version, released in December 2000.     DIXIE CHICKS - GOODBYE EARL (2000) hit #19 (#13 country)
Goodbye Earl", written by Dennis Linde, is a country music song. Initially recorded by the band Sons of the Desert for an unreleased album in the late 1990s, the song gained fame when it was recorded by the Dixie Chicks on their second studio album Fly. After charting from unsolicited airplay in late 1999, the song was released as that album's third single in 2000, peaking at #13 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts. The CD single includes an ironic 'B-Side' cover of Stand By Your Man by Tammy Wynette.

The song uses black comedy to tell the story of two best friends from high school, and what became of them after graduation. Mary Ann leaves the town where they were raised, while Wanda settles on marrying a man named "Earl," who physically abuses her repeatedly. Wanda files for divorce based on the domestic violence, but "Earl walked right through that restraining order and put her in intensive care." Mary Ann flies in from Atlanta, Georgia, and after a discussion, the women decide "that Earl had to die," and they kill him, by poisoning his black-eyed peas. The song plot has been described as a cross between the films Fried Green Tomatoes and Thelma and Louise.

"Goodbye Earl" reached a peak position of #13 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, a spot somewhat short of the Chicks' usual placings at the time. It also made the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at #19, and would become the trio's highest charting song among pop listings until "Long Time Gone" in the summer of 2002. Regardless of rankings, the song has become one of the Chicks' most well-known tunes. It is an enthusiastically-received staple of all their concert tours.

The band began with performances in Portland, Oregon. Goldsmith quit during the recording of the group's second album, The Colour and the Shape (1997) when most of the drum parts were re-recorded by Grohl himself. was a Canadian pop group active from 1993 to 2005, best known for their hit single "Faded".

The group was formed in Vancouver under the original name Indecision by singers Trevor Guthrie, David Bowman, Adam Stillman and keyboard player Ken Lewko, who were studying music together at Capilano College. Before signing a record deal, they released a couple of singles that received national top 40 radio airplay. The success of those singles led them to a record deal with Universal Music. However, due to naming conflicts, they had to change their name from Indecision, a requirement they were unhappy with; they in fact, allowed their manager to choose the new name soulDecision. Although launched at the height of the boy band era, soulDecision wrote their own music and played their own instruments.

A lot of people become successful after they've been told they won't ever be, so people can relate to this. It can be about an old flame or a boss or a teacher -whatever it means to each individual. It was a fun song to write  "How Do You Like Me Now?!" debuted at #57 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks for the week of November 20, 1999
