CHUBBY CHECKER - HEY BOBBA NEEDLE (1964) hit #23

Silly but super catchy pop song I learned about 1984.  This was his last Top 30 hit single.

Chubby Checker (born Ernest Evans, October 3, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter. He is widely known for popularizing the twist dance style, with his 1960 hit cover of Hank Ballard's R&B hit "The Twist". In September 2008 "The Twist" topped Billboard's list of the most popular singles to have appeared in the Hot 100 since its debut in 1958

Ernest Evans was born in Spring Gulley, South Carolina. He was raised in the projects of South Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he lived with his parents and two brothers. By age eight Evans formed a street-corner harmony group, and by the time he entered high school, learned to play the piano. He would entertain his classmates by performing vocal impressions of popular entertainers of the day, such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley and Fats Domino. One of his classmates and friends at South Philadelphia High School was Fabiano Forte, who would become a popular performer of the late 1950s and early 1960s as Fabian.

OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN - LET ME BE THERE (1974) hit #6
Let Me Be There" is a popular song written by John Rostill. It was first recorded by Olivia Newton-John in 1973 and included on her album of the same title. The country influenced song was Newton-John's first Top 10 single in the U.S., peaking at No. 6, and also won her a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocalist. Mike Sammes sings a bass vocal harmony on the song.

"Let Me Be There" was recorded live by Elvis Presley, and sung at many concerts until his death in 1977. Probably the most noted Elvis cover was recorded on March 20, 1974 live at a concert in Memphis, Tennessee. Most of that concert was released on July 7, 1974 as the album Elvis: As Recorded Live On Stage In Memphis. The cover of "Let Me Be There" from that show was also released as track 5 on the Moody Blue album on July 19, 1977. Tanya Tucker recorded the song for her gold album Would You Lay with Me (In a Field of Stone) in 1974 and included on several greatest hits compilations.

Olivia Newton-John, AO, OBE (born 26 September 1948) is an English born Australian singer and actress. She is a four-time Grammy award winner who has amassed five No. 1 and ten other Top Ten Billboard Hot 100 singles and two No. 1 Billboard 200 solo albums. Eleven of her singles (including two platinum) and 14 of her albums (including two platinum and four double platinum) have been certified gold by the RIAA. Her music has been successful in multiple formats including pop, country and adult contemporary and has sold an estimated over 100 million albums worldwide. She co-starred with John Travolta in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Grease, which featured one of the most successful film soundtracks in Hollywood history

AMANDA WILKINSON - THE ART OF LETTING GO (2005)

Album:  Amanda Wilkinson (2005)

November 1st 2005 - my #6 favorite daily song for 24 days at age 34 living at Eastview while dating Cheryl from Regina.

Amanda Nicole Wilkinson was born January 17, 1982, in Belleville, Ontario, Canada and was raised in nearby Trenton, Ontario. She is a Canadian country music singer. She is also a member of country group The Wilkinsons, which includes her father Steve and brother Tyler. She began singing early. Her dad inspired her. They first sang together at a family event and then continued singing together. In 1997 the Wilkinson family moved to Nashville. Their first single "26 Cents" was a success leading to Gold certifications in both the United States and Canada. Other albums The Wilkinsons have released include: Here and Now (2000), Shine (2001), and Highway (2004). In 2004, Amanda began to sing solo, along with continuing to sing with the family. Her first solo album, Amanda Wilkinson, was released in 2005. In 2006, Amanda was nominated for Single of the Year, CMT Video of the Year, Female Artist of the Year and Album of the Year at the Canadian Country Music Awards

PAUL McCARTNEY - HEAVEN ON A SUNDAY (1997)

Album:  Flaming Pie (1997)

I bought this brand new CD in July 1997 at age 26 while on the road with Marilyn now for 4 years.

Flaming Pie is the tenth solo studio album by Paul McCartney, first released in 1997. His first studio album in over four years, it was mostly recorded following McCartney's involvement in the highly successful The Beatles Anthology project. In Flaming Pie's liner notes McCartney said: "(Anthology) reminded me of The Beatles' standards and the standards that we reached with the songs. So in a way it was a refresher course that set the framework for this album."

Upon its May 1997 release, the critical reaction to Flaming Pie was very strong, with McCartney achieving his best reviews since 1982's Tug of War. The commercial reaction was everything McCartney could have hoped for. With fresh credibility even with young fans who had been introduced to him through the Anthology project, and anticipation raised with the excellent reviews, Flaming Pie debuted at #2 in the UK in May, giving McCartney his best new entry since Flowers in the Dirt eight years before. It was knocked-off the top spot there by the Spice Girls' album Spice.  In the US, reaction was also very positive. The album debuted at #2 (the best chart peak for a McCartney album there since Tug of War) with 121,000 copies sold in its first week, also behind the Spice album that sold only 16,500 more copies that week

RICK DERRINGER - SLIDE ON OVER SLINKY (1973)

Album:  All American Boy (1973)

August 18th 1989 - my #5 favorite daily song for 1 day.  This was the last album I listened to in rotation before moving away from home the first time to Muenster, SK to the monastery at St Peters College for 1st year University at age 18.  My grandpa died on September 8th 1989.

All American Boy is an album by Rick Derringer, released on Blue Sky Records in 1973. "Joy Ride" and "Time Warp" (not to be confused with The Rocky Horror Picture Show song) are instrumentals.

Rick Derringer (born Richard Zehringer, August 5, 1947) is an American guitarist, vocalist, and entertainer.

In 1973, the song's author, Rick Derringer recorded the song for his solo debut album All American Boy. The song was released as a single and reached #23 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it his highest showing in the record charts. It has become a staple of 1970s rock music compilations and classic rock radio. Derringer has recorded several live versions of the "Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo" over the years

Derringer appeared on Alice Cooper's Killer album in 1971, playing the solo on "Under My Wheels." Derringer opened for Led Zeppelin on their last American tour. Derringer was also a featured guitarist on several Todd Rundgren albums in the 1970s, including Something/Anything? (1972), A Wizard, a True Star (1973), Initiation (1975) and the live album Back to the Bars (1978).

RINGO STARR - THIS BE CALLED A SONG (1976)

Album: Ringo's Rotogravure (1976)

July 11th 1991 - my favorite #4 favorite daily song for 5 days at age 20 celebrating Ringo's 51st birthday.   It was customary for me to "boost" all the solo Beatles almost every year during their birthdays which is the case here.   Ringo has had 7 different songs hit #1 on my daily chart.     I would have first bought this album around 1982 at age 11.  I had even bought a sealed copy of the 8-track in 1983 at Sears Department Store for possibly $2.99.  I upgraded to the CD in 1993.

This Be Called a Song" (Eric Clapton) – 3:14  features Eric Clapton on guitar and background vocals by Melissa Manchester
Ringo's Rotogravure is the fifth album by Ringo Starr, released in 1976. Following the end of his contract with EMI, Starr signed on with Polydor Records (which once signed a pre-Ringo Beatles as the backing band of Tony Sheridan) worldwide (Atlantic Records handling US distribution) and was eager to see his solo success continue on in a new era.

Two years on from 1974's Goodnight Vienna, Starr − armed with new producer Arif Mardin − again stuck to his tried-and-true formula of having friends write songs and play on the recordings. This time, Eric Clapton took part, in addition to his old friend Harry Nilsson, and Peter Frampton, Melissa Manchester, Dr. John, Paul McCartney and John Lennon (his last studio session for four years until Double Fantasy).

    YES - EASTERN NUMBER (1977)

Album: Going For The Oner (1977) cd bonus track - Demo of "Awaken"

After dedicating all of 1980-1983 to The Beatles I discovered Yes in 1984 and that year at age 13 bought every single one of their albums due to their new fame with Owner Of A Lonely Heart but it was their 2nd new single Leave It that had my intrigued.  So I learned their first 15 years of material all in 1984 just as I was entering high school.  Yes would quickly become my 2nd favorite band of all time.   I saw Bill Bruford live in concert in 1992 and chatted with him for a moment.  My wife bought tickets to see Yes in 2008 in Toronto but the concert was cancelled due to Jon Anderson's vocal problems.  We flew to New York in 2011 to see Jon Anderson solo in concert.  Members of Yes are my favorite musicians ever including Rick Wakeman, Trevor Rabin, Steve Howe and Chris Squire.   My high school best friend Nels Krauss and I also bonded through our connection of Yes and playing music and we enjoyed jamming on Yes songs in the mid 1980's.

THE BEATLES - HERE COMES THE SUN (1969)

Album: Abbey Road (1969)

I don't remember when I got Abbey Road but it was likely in 1982 at age 11

Here Comes the Sun" is a song by George Harrison from The Beatles' 1969 album Abbey Road.

"Here Comes the Sun" is one of Harrison's best-known Beatles contributions alongside "Something" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". The year 1969 was a difficult one for Harrison: he was arrested for marijuana possession, he had his tonsils removed, and he had quit the band temporarily.

The song is in A chromatic-minor with an A tonic major chord. The refrain uses an IV (D chord) to V of V (E chord) progression (the reverse of that used in "Eight Days a Week" and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"). The melody in the verse and refrain basically follows the pentatonic scale from E up to C♯ (scale steps 5, 6, 1, 2, 3).

One feature is the increasing syncopation in the vocal parts Another feature is the guitar flat-picking that embellishes the E7 (V7) chord from 2.03-2.11 secs, creating tension for resolution on the tonic A chord at "Little darlin'". The bridge involves a ♭III-♭VII-IV-I-V7 triple descending 4th (or Tri-Plagal) progression (with an extra V7) as the vocals move from "Sun" (♭III or C chord) "sun" (♭VII or G chord) "sun" (IV or D chord) to "comes" (I or A chord) and the additional 4th descent to a V7 (E7) chord. The lyric here ("Sun, sun, sun , here it comes") has been described as taking "on the quality of a meditator's mantra." The song also features extreme 4/4 (in the verse) and 7/8 with 11/8 (in the bridge) phrasing interludes which Harrison drew from Indian music influences. In the second verse (0.59-1.13) the Moog synthesizer doubles the solo guitar line and in the third verse the Moog adds an obligato line an octave above. The last four bars (2.54-3.04) justaxpose the guitar break with a rehearing of the bridge

THE BOURBON TABERNACLE CHOIR - PUT YOUR HEAD ON (1991)

July 17th 1991 - my #2 favorite daily song for 4 days at age 20 summer before entering 4th year University.   Great upbeat blues tinged song with an odd chord structure for the choruses.

The Bourbon Tabernacle Choir were a Canadian alternative rock band that formed in 1985 in Toronto. Their R&B-flavoured rock made them a mainstay on Canadian campus radio in the early 1990s, but the band never quite broke through to the mainstream.

The band consisted of vocalist Kate Fenner, vocalist and organist Chris Brown, vocalist and guitarist Andrew Whiteman, guitarist Chris Miller, saxophone and vocalist Chris Plock, bassist Jason Mercer and drummer Gregor Beresford. Vocalist Dave Wall joined the band in 1988, and vocalist and saxophonist Gene Hardy joined in 1989.

They released three independent cassettes: First Taste of Bourbon in 1987, If Hell Had a Houseband in 1989 and Sister Anthony in 1990. The single "Put Your Head On" b/w "As Right as They Want to Be" (1990), produced by Bob Wiseman, attracted the attention of film director Bruce McDonald, who included it on the soundtrack to his 1991 film Highway 61. Both songs were later available on the CD reissue of Sister Anthony in 1995, although the original version of "As Right as They Want to Be" was replaced with a live version.

With the exposure they gained from "Put Your Head On", the band signed to the independent label Yonder Records, and released Superior Cackling Hen in 1992. The singles "Make Amends", "Afterglow" and "Original Grin" were all hits on campus and modern rock radio stations in the next year.

TERRY HOKNES - TREATING ME UNKIND (2005) Opus #915 - written in 1994

As the new century began a new chapter in songwriting where the focus was more on recording polished songs but writing way less and very sporadic.    I had written 500 songs by the age of 19 and had hit 1000 songs by the age of 25.  But since then I can go over a year at a time without writing a song but really focusing in most cases on a more commercial type of polished song however I still venture into all possible genres.  I continue to play and sing every part on all my songs and recordings.

I hired Neil Meckelborg of Audio Art to record my songs in 2001.  We started out recording a full album at their location downtown behind the Bus depot but eventually worked on recordings at Neil's private studio.  In total we recorded 3 full albums of material of my songs and a full length album of songs I wrote with Marilyn Parney that I produced.  Neil and I also worked on a Trooper hit song karaoke CD in 2001.  I spent 18 months recording with Neil and over 40 songs and over $10,000.00 in studio bills I paid at that time to record the best quality audio ever on my songs.  Neil had used Sonar Cakewalk so I learned how to use it and have used that now for a decade in my own studio.

    SPIRIT - MR. SKIN (1984)

Album: The Thirteenth Dream / Spirit Of 84 (1984)

Spirit recorded their most famous songs again for this final reunion album featuring the original members.   I first bought this album on used cassette in 1991.

May 21st 2003 - my #6 favorite daily song for 38 days at age 32 while staying at grandmas house short term while I looked around to buy my first house on my own after living in Dalmeny, SK.

The Thirteenth Dream was the second (and final) "reunion" album from Spirit. It features re-recordings of several of their best-loved tracks, along with three new songs. The most noteworthy things that can be said about the album are in regards to the excellent fidelity of the album, as it was originally recorded by an audiophile label and is an early digital recording (dating from December of 1982), and that it was the first Spirit album to be released on CD, as it appeared in that format from Mercury Records in West Germany in 1984 (consequently, it is also one of the best sounding early CD releases from a rock band, probably due to the recording technology that was implemented).  As previously mentioned, this album was originally released on CD in 1984. However, the original CD is incredibly rare. It was later reissued in 2004 by Beat Goes On in a two-fer with Future Games.   As a side note, a version of Elijah (originally released on Spirit) was recorded during these sessions and issued as the b-side of a maxi single. It has not appeared on any of the CD releases, or on the LP.    The album was issued as Spirit of '84 in the United States

THE CHURCH - UNDER THE MILKY WAY (1988) hit #24
Under the Milky Way" is a single by Australian alternative rock band The Church released in February 1988 with their album, Starfish. The song was written by bass guitarist and vocalist Steve Kilbey and his then-girlfriend, Karin Jansson (ex-Pink Champagne, Curious Yellow). It charted in the Top 30 on the Australian Singles Chart and US Billboard Hot 100, reaching #24, and won an ARIA Award in 1989 for 'Single of the Year'.

"Under the Milky Way" was written by the band's vocalist and bassist, Steve Kilbey, and his then-girlfriend Karin Jansson. The song was originally released on The Church's Starfish album and won the Australian ARIA award for 'Single of the Year' in 1989. It was the band's only international hit, staying in the U.S. top 40 for several weeks, and charting in Canada (#69) and the UK (#90). In Australia, "Under the Milky Way" peaked at #22—however, it was not their biggest homeland hit; the singles "Almost With You" and "Metropolis" charted at #21 and #19, respectively, in the Australian charts.

"Under the Milky Way" featured a 12-string acoustic guitar melody along with a solo composed with an EBow on a Fender Jazzmaster, leading to a sound reminiscent of bagpipes. According to a press release issued with Starfish, the song was written about an Amsterdam music and cultural venue called Melkweg (Dutch for "Milky Way"), which Kilbey used to frequent.[citation needed]

The single was released in several configurations worldwide (7", double 7", 12", CD single), with at least five different cover art designs. The main B-sides were "Musk" and "Warm Spell". Spanish versions added "Anna Miranda" and "Perfect Child". The music video for the song featured on The Church's video compilation Goldfish (Jokes, Magic & Souvenirs).

    MATCHBOX TWENTY - BENT (2000) hit #1
Bent" is the first single from Mad Season, the second album by the rock band Matchbox Twenty. The song reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on July 22, 2000, and stayed there for one week before being unseated by 'N Sync's "It's Gonna Be Me". It's currently the band's only number one hit on that chart.

This was Thomas' first attempt at a love song and he believes it is co-dependent of the 21st century. Thomas spoke on Storytellers that the song is about two people who are both messed up, but because they're together, it doesn't matter.

The song had an interesting reception in the UK market, as "bent" is a slang term synonymous with "gay": the chorus of the song contains the lyric "Can you help me? I'm bent." The song also contains suggestive lyrics in this vein: "Keep breaking me in", a slang term for being sexually penetrated.

Matchbox Twenty (originally spelled officially, and still sometimes known, as Matchbox 20) is an American rock band, formed in Orlando, Florida, in 1995. The group currently comprises Rob Thomas (lead vocals, piano), Paul Doucette (rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Brian Yale (bass guitar), Kyle Cook (lead guitar, backing vocals) and Ryan MacMillan (drums, percussion).

Matchbox Twenty rose to international fame with their debut album, Yourself or Someone Like You (1996), which was certified diamond in the United States and multi-platinum in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Their second album, Mad Season, released in 2000, charted in the top three on the Billboard 200 and was certified 4× platinum in the United States. Their third album, More Than You Think You Are, released in 2002, was certified double platinum in the United States. However, it was not as successful as the previous two albums, despite its singles receiving significant airplay.

THE REBEL PEBBLES - HOW DO YOU FEEL (1991)

November 5th 1991 - my #2 favorite daily song for 2 days at age 20 - I saw this video on Much Music.    I was in 3rd year University.

The all-girl band Rebel Pebbles formed in 1989 when singer Rachel Murray met ex-Pandoras guitarist Karen Blankfield through a newspaper ad. Adding drummer Cheryl Bullock and bass player Robin Barnetti, the Los Angeles quartet began gigging and recorded a self-released, three-song EP called Party Time. Following Party Time, the upstart band replaced Barnetti with Robin Fox and signed a record deal with Miles Copeland. They toured with fellow IRS labelmates Dread Zeppelin and Stan Ridgway before entering the studio in late 1990 to record their debut. The resulting Girls Talk was released in the spring of 1991 and Rebel Pebbles just missed out on a Top 40 hit with the first single, "Dream Lover," which peaked at number 42. Two further singles, "How Do You Feel" and "Anthony's Attic," were issued, but neither one cracked the charts. Constant touring and personnel changes created friction and Rebel Pebbles called it a day without ever recording a sophomore album. At the end of 2000, Blankfield and Bullock appeared on Murray's self-titled solo release and the band reunited for some reunion shows the following year.

When the Rebel Pebbles signed with IRS Records in the early 1990s, the label no doubt had hopes of duplicating its prior success with the Go-Gos. Like the Go-Gos, the Rebel Pebbles were an all-female band from Los Angeles that specialized in exuberant pop-rock and showed an awareness of the girl-group sound of the early to mid-1960s. It's impossible to review the Pebbles without mentioning the Go-Gos -- their influence is all over Girls Talk

THE MOVE - CALIFORNIA MAN (1971)

Album:  Message From The Country (1971)

The Move became one of my all time favorite bands after I became a fan of Roy Wood first.  My favorite album of theirs is this one which was their final album before they changed their name to "Electric Light Orchestra".  I bought this album in January 1986 at Nik Of Time Record shop on Broadway and I played it non-stop upstairs in my grandparents bedroom on Taylor Street while they went on holiday. Unfortunately I had no song charts before 1987 when I learned the majority of songs by The Move.

March 20th 1992 - my #5 favorite daily song for 3 days at age 21 in 3rd year University from the album Split Ends.   I was in love with schoolmate Anna at this time.   I had just started 2 new bands the month before: The Shade and Whats His Name And The Other Guys.

Released in 1972 as a maxi single with "Do Ya" and "Ella James" as a double B-side, this was The Move's last official single release. The Electric Light Orchestra, originally conceived as a side-project to The Move, issued its first single,10538 Overture, a month after this track. A pastiche of Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and Larry Williams, the composition is recorded in a high energy rock 'n' roll style, with lead vocals by both Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood, then jointly leaders of both Electric Light Orchestra and The Move. California Man reached No. 7 on the UK Singles Chart in May 1972.   In the U.S. the single was issued on the United Artists record label. It was flipped after release, when Lynne's "Do Ya" b-side proved more popular. It became The Move's only US charting single, peaking at 93 on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1972.   Only Wood, Lynne and drummer Bev Bevan appear on the recording. The picture sleeve opposite has an older picture of The Move, including bassist Rick Price, who was no longer a member of the group by then.   The Move's version of the song never originally appeared on one of their studio albums, however it does appear as a bonus track on the reissue of Message From the Country.

The song was later covered by Cheap Trick and Jim Davidson. Cheap Trick included it on their 1978 album Heaven Tonight and also released it as a single that year as a follow up to "Surrender". It has also been included on several Cheap Trick compilation albums. Cliff Richard has performed it live on occasion.

ALAN WHITE - OOH BABY (1975)

Album: Ramshackled (1975)

Alan White was the drummer for John Lennon & Plastic Ono Band and then the drummer for Yes for the past 40 years.    This progressive/moody/jazz song ended the album and is one I have played over and over.  Yes being one of my favorite groups of all time is the reason I picked up this album in 1987.

Ramshackled is the debut solo album by Alan White, drummer for British progressive rock band Yes. It was released in 1975 on Atlantic Records, during a period when all five of the Yes band members (Jon Anderson, Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Patrick Moraz and White) released solo albums.  White had worked with Pete Kirtley and Kenny Craddock in the Alan Price Set and Happy Magazine. White, Kirtley, Craddock and Colin Gibson then worked together in the short-lived Griffin in 1969. In the early 1970s, White, Kirtley, Craddock, Gibson and Bud Beadle played together in unsigned band Simpson's Pure Oxygen. For his debut solo album, White brought Kirtley, Craddock, Gibson and Beadle back together.

ROY WOOD - TURN YOUR BODY TO THE LIGHT (1987)

Album:  Starting Up (1987)

I had been a huge fan of ELO for a while and knew of Roy Wood one of the founding members.  On February 14th 1985 at age 14 (grade 9) I flipped through the bargain bin of records at the Kresge's Department Store in Midtown Plaza shopping mall in Saskatoon and found this new sealed album Mustard priced at 99 cents.   The first time I heard this album that night I knew I had found a masterpiece and Roy Wood would be the first act to ever debut at #1 on my daily favorite music groups chart on that valentines day.  (I declare this to be Roy Wood day).  I bought a used copy of his first album Boulders a week later at Nudon Record shop on Louise & 8th Street.  I flew to New York 17 years later to see Roy Wood 3 times in concert and got to meet him backstage 2 times.  I have posted some of those video performances I filmed on www.youtube.com

December 1992 - age 31 living in Dalmeny, SK with Marilyn now selling on ebay for 4.5 years

Starting Up is the fourth solo album by Roy Wood, who played most of the instruments and sang most of the vocals throughout, in addition to writing and producing the album. ‘On Top Of The World’ featured strings arranged and conducted by Louis Clark.

'Under Fire' (1985) and 'Raining In The City' (1986) were both previously released as singles

    SPIRIT - SHE-RA PRINCESS OF POWER (1989)

Album:  Rapture In The Chambers (1989)

April 9th 2003 - my #5 favorite daily song for 42 days at age 32 while staying at grandmas house short term while I looked around to buy my first house on my own after living in Dalmeny, SK.

Spirit was an American jazz/hard rock/progressive rock/psychedelic band founded in 1967, based in Los Angeles, California

Rapture in the Chambers was a 1989 album by Spirit.   It was their first "proper" album since their 1984 album Spirit of 84, which had featured the entire original line-up. Their albums since that time had mostly consisted of archival releases. It was also their final album for an established label, IRS Records.    The primary line-up for this album was Randy, Ed and John Locke. Mark Andes also appeared on two tracks, and Randy's sister Janet provided harmony vocals on Hard Love and "Shera: Princess of Power.

They embarked on working almost continually for the next six years. Though they would release very few albums of new material during the decade, the group was always either recording or touring. California had his own home recording studio since the early 1980s, though he had been making home recordings for years prior to that. Sadly, this renewed vigor came to an end on January 2, 1997, when California drowned off the coast of Hawaii. He had been surfing with his son, who got caught in a riptide. He managed to push his son to safety, but ended up losing his own life.

FAITH NO MORE - WE CARE A LOT (1987)

March 31st 1992 - my #1 favorite daily song for 22 days at age 21 in 3rd year University.  I bought this CD used a cd shop on 33rd Street which is now gone after I had loved their last album so much.

We Care a Lot" is a song by Faith No More. It was recorded for and released on the band's first two studio albums, We Care a Lot and Introduce Yourself, and was included on the live album and video Live at the Brixton Academy; the latter two recordings also each have the song as a single release (January 18, 1988 and in 1991 respectively, the former making it to No. 53 on the UK Singles Chart). Although a Chuck Mosley-era song, it was the second most frequently-played song during the band's live performances, behind "Epic". "We Care a Lot" featured different lyrics and ad-libs when performed by Mike Patton, much like performances of "Chinese Arithmetic".

The lyrics of this song are a sarcastic parody of "the popstar posing that accompanied those [Live Aid style] charitable events" and mentions a range of things about which the band sarcastically claims 'we care a lot', such as the LAPD, the "food that Live Aid bought", the Garbage Pail Kids and even The Transformers. The original version, released in 1985, mentions Madonna and Mr. T. This was altered for social relevance in the 1987 re-release.

Allmusic's reviewer laments the song's lack of future front-man Mike Patton, calling Mosley's vocals "brute thuggishness" and "flat", but also says that the song is a "fully realized effort in itself". "We Care a Lot" was also listed in PopMatters' 65 Great Protest Songs, citing it as Faith No More's anti-protest song and as a "smirking account of everything that pop and political culture shoved down our throats at the height of the Reagan revolution

TERRY HOKNES featuring CHANTELLE HAUGEN - HERE AND NOW (2008) Opus #1100??

My friend Chantelle sang lead vocal on this song that I wrote specifically for the Pussycat Dolls
