THE MOVE - BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER (1970)

Album:  Shazam (1970)

February 3rd 1988 - my #4 favorite daily song for 4 days at age 17 in Grade 12.

The Move became one of my all time favorite bands after I became a fan of Roy Wood first.   I bought most of their albums in 1985 but I never got Shazam until the 1990's.  This band features the earliest songs and singing of Roy Wood as he became a huge star in England but no success at all in North America.  Unfortunately I had no song charts yet in 1985 when I learned the majority of their songs.

Shazam is the second album by The Move, released in the UK in February 1970. The LP marked a bridge between the band's quirky late '60s pop singles and the progressive, long-form style of Roy Wood's next project, the Electric Light Orchestra. It was the last Move album to feature the group's original lead vocalist, Carl Wayne.

Like Led Zeppelin's debut album, "Shazam" was basically a snippet of the Birmingham group's 1969 stage act captured on vinyl. A crunchy mix of California psychedelia, heavy metal riffs, thundering drums and quotations from classic composers, the disc was generally praised by critics -- "Rolling Stone" gave a glowing review in the spring of that year—and is generally regarded as the band's best LP.

The Move, from Birmingham, England, were one of the leading British rock bands of the 1960s. They scored nine Top 20 UK singles in five years, but were among the most popular British bands not to find any success in the United States

TERRY HOKNES - I CAN SEE MY BREATH (2002) Opus #742 - written in 1991 at age 20

As the new century began a new chapter in songwriting where the focus was more on recording polished songs but writing way less and very sporadic.    I had written 500 songs by the age of 19 and had hit 1000 songs by the age of 25.  But since then I can go over a year at a time without writing a song but really focusing in most cases on a more commercial type of polished song however I still venture into all possible genres.  I continue to play and sing every part on all my songs and recordings.

I hired Neil Meckelborg of Audio Art to record my songs in 2001.  We started out recording a full album at their location downtown behind the Bus depot but eventually worked on recordings at Neil's private studio.  In total we recorded 3 full albums of material of my songs and a full length album of songs I wrote with Marilyn Parney that I produced.  Neil and I also worked on a Trooper hit song karaoke CD in 2001.  I spent 18 months recording with Neil and over 40 songs and over $10,000.00 in studio bills I paid at that time to record the best quality audio ever on my songs.  Neil had used Sonar Cakewalk so I learned how to use it and have used that now for a decade in my own studio.

RINGO STARR - NIGHT AND DAY (1970)

Album:  Sentimental Journey (1970)

My friend Terry Butler had this album and I think I traded him the new Journey album for it thinking he was getting the better part of the deal but I was very happy to acquire another Beatles related album on my quest to owning them at age 11 in 1982.

July 15th 1990 - my #6 favorite daily song for 1 day at age 19 before entering 2nd year University celebrating Ringo's 50th birthday.

Sentimental Journey is the debut solo album by former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, released in 1970, as the band was splintering apart. Although Starr was the third member of the group to issue solo work (after George Harrison and John Lennon), Sentimental Journey is notable for being the first non-avant-garde studio album by a member of the band, in light of the experimental, soundtrack or live releases his aforementioned bandmates had already released. Paul McCartney's debut, McCartney, would follow three weeks after Sentimental Journey's release.

Sentimental Journey received fair reviews upon its release, although many critics found the idea of Starr covering standards a bit odd considering his musical background. His fame in the Beatles was all that was required, however, to get it all the way to #7 in the UK - with no single release to promote it - and #22 in the US. Although the style of the album took many by surprise, Starr's swift follow-up, Beaucoups of Blues, would be just as radical a stylistic shift.

The pub on the cover of the album is The Empress in Dingle, Liverpool, which is one of the nearest pubs to Ringo's place of birth. The superimposed figures in the windows of the pub are Ringo's relatives.

THE EAGLES - WITCHY WOMAN (1972) hit #9
Witchy Woman" is a song written by Don Henley and Bernie Leadon, and recorded by the American rock band Eagles. Released as the second single from the band's debut album Eagles, it reached #9 on the Billboard Pop singles chart and is the only single from the album to feature Henley on lead vocals.

"Witchy Woman" was started by guitarist Bernie Leadon who wrote it while he was a member of The Flying Burrito Brothers. Upon joining the Eagles, Bernie and Don Henley completed writing the song in the signature Eagles style and it was one of Henley's first songs he wrote for the Eagles. While the inspiration for the title and lyrics was based on various women they had met and remembered as seductive enchantresses, Henley had Zelda Fitzgerald particularly in mind after reading her biography. The muse and sometimes genius behind her well-published author husband F. Scott Fitzgerald, Zelda was known as wild, bewitching and mesmerizing and was the quintessential "Flapper", as her husband dubbed her, of the Jazz Age and the Roaring Twenties. In his novel, The Great Gatsby, Fitzgerald embodies Zelda's uninhibited and reckless personality in the character of Daisy Buchanan. Theories and speculation on Zelda's behavior were widespread, with lyrics in "Witchy Woman" referring to Zelda's partying excesses being detrimental to her psyche: "She drove herself to madness with the silver spoon", is a reference to Zelda's time in a mental institution and the special slotted silver spoon used to dissolve sugar cubes with Absinthe, the popular 1920s alcoholic beverage distilled from the wormwood tree and called "the green fairy" for sometimes inducing hallucinations. The song was conceived while Don Henley was living in an old house near the Hollywood Bowl, with his flat mate, Henry Vine (aka 'Blitz').

THE SICK PUPPIES - MAYBE (2010)

February 11th 2011 - my #2 favorite daily song for 42 days at age 40 living at Ave M South with Valerie now married 3.5 years and Nicholas is almost 5.

Maybe" is the third single from Sick Puppies' third album Tri-Polar, which impacted rock radio on June 22, 2010. A remix version was made for pop radio stations, and the official music video.   The song features a bright sound characteristic of post-grunge.   The song was featured as iTunes' single of the week on the week of December 18–25, 2010.   A music video was released on October 12, 2010 on Yahoo music and the official website of Sick Puppies. It shows two people separately moving to a beach town in Southern California to improve their lives, and meeting there. Hey Arnold's Toran Caudell and The Vampire Diaries's Kayla Ewell both plays the 2 people who met each other. The video also shows the band playing on a highway. It was directed by Travis Kopach. The performance footage was shot in the Mojave Desert.

"Maybe" is the most successful single of the band, it was the first song that made it into the Hot 100 peaking at #56, it also peaked at #1 for 5 alternate weeks on the Heatseekers Songs making it their second #1 hit. On the Alternative Songs chart, peaked at #6 surpassing the succes of "All the Same" at this chart. It was also their first single that made it into the Pop Songs chart, as well as their first international charting single

STARS ON 45 (STARS ON) - DO YOU REMEMBER - ROCK N ROLL MEDLEY (1981)

Album:  Stars On Long Play 1 (1981)

This album may be the reason I became an entertainer.   The first time I performed singing in front of an audience of strangers was in the summer of 1981 at age 10 singing along with this entire 15 minute song which I had memorized as I was in full gear as a Beatles fanatic after John Lennon died.  At the time I created a fictional band called The Recorders which consisted of myself, my sister Leslie and my best friend Zender Millar who were all members who in an alternative world we recorded all The Beatles songs ourselves in their place.  I designed all the album covers and song lists at that time.  I loved the 3 Stars On Long Play albums and bought them all immediately when they were released.  It was also a great learning experience to hear many classic songs for the first time before I had even heard the originals.

Stars on 45 was a Dutch novelty pop act that was briefly very popular in the United Kingdom, throughout Europe, the United States and Australia in the early 1980s. The group later shortened its name to Stars On in the U.S., while in the U.K. and Ireland it was known as Starsound. The band, which consisted solely of studio session musicians under the direction of Jaap Eggermont, formerly of Golden Earring, popularized the medley, by recreating hit songs as faithfully as possible and stringing them together, with a common tempo and relentless underlying drum track. The point was to provide a danceable disco record which used familiar tunes—a technique that was also used in the Hooked on Classics series of recordings released by RCA Records and K-Tel Records.
KYLIE MINOGUE - LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT (2002) hit #23
Love At First Sight" is a dance-pop song by Australian recording artist Kylie Minogue, released in June 2002 as the third single from her eighth studio album Fever (2001).

It was also released in the United States as the second single with the Ruff & Jam US Radio Mix as its lead single version. The single also contained the remix mash-up of New Order's single "Blue Monday" and Minogue's successful single to date, "Can't Get You Out of My Head". The song was nominated for a Grammy award for Best Dance Recording in 2003.

"Love at First Sight" was released in the UK on 10 June 2002, debuting at #2, and spending a total of twelve weeks in the Top 75, and was also certified Silver for shipments of at least 200,000 copies and sold 183,810 copies. It also became Minogue's third consecutive release to top the UK radio airplay charts. The song received 3,116 plays in one week, breaking the record that she held previously with "Can't Get You Out of My Head."

Outside of the UK, the song was also very successful. It reached the Top 10 in Spain, Israel, Hong Kong, Poland, Canada, Hungary & Ireland as well as in many other countries while in Minogue's home country of Australia, the song debuted at #3 on the singles chart.

Due to favorable reception, "Love at First Sight" was released in the United States with a different arrangement mixed by duo Ruff & Jam. Minogue had previously found success on the Billboard Hot 100 with "The Loco-Motion" in 1988 (#3) and "Can't Get You Out of My Head" in 2001 (#7). "Love at First Sight" became her second consecutive release to reach the Top 40 on the Billboard charts, reaching #23. It also performed very well on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart, where it became Minogue's second song to reach #1 there. The music video for "Love at First Sight" was shot in Dublin, Ireland on 12 May 2002.

    YOKO ONO - WE'RE ALL WATER (1972)

Album:  Some Time In New York City (1972)

I remember specifically buying this album used at Tramps on 3rd Avenue and it would have to be between 1984 and 1986 as I bought this double album fairly late at age 13 at the earliest.

December 21st 2009 - my #7 favorite daily song for 36 days including Xmas and my 39th birthday while paying tribute during to John Lennon's 29th anniversary of being killed.

Some Time in New York City (rendered Sometime in New York City on the record label, inner jacket, and original compact disc) is a studio album paired with the live album Live Jam as a double album.

Released in 1972, it is John Lennon's third post-Beatles album, fifth with Yoko Ono, and third with producer Phil Spector. Some Time in New York City fared poorly critically and commercially compared to Lennon's previous two albums, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine.

John Lennon and Yoko Ono moved to New York City in September 1971 and continued their involvement in political, peace and social justice causes. When they eventually settled in Greenwich Village, they were quickly contacted by activists Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman who persuaded them to appear at a rally for left-wing writer John Sinclair, who was jailed for possession of two marijuana joints. The Lennons also spoke out against the Attica Prison riots, the jailing of Black Panther Angela Davis and women's rights. By January 1972, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had opened a file on the Lennons, fearing they would organise the youth vote and prevent a second term for President Richard Nixon. Soon, the government would begin deportation proceedings against the couple, and the FBI began intense surveillence, documenting their every move.

PAUL McCARTNEY & WINGS - TREAT HER GENTLY / LONELY OLD PEOPLE (1975)

Album:  Venus And Mars (1975)

I likely had this album by 1983 at age 12 but I spent considerable time playing these songs on the piano and singing the entire album as I had received the guitar/piano songbook in 1984 at Ruth Street making this possibly my most well known album by McCartney.     I had no daily song charts pre-1987 so there is documentation on which were my favorite McCartney songs when I first learned his albums.

Venus and Mars is the fourth album by Wings. Released as the follow-up to the enormously successful Band on the Run, Venus and Mars continued Wings' string of success and would prove a springboard for a year-long worldwide tour. It was Paul McCartney's first post-Beatles release under the Capitol Records label.

After recording Band on the Run as a three-piece with wife Linda and guitarist Denny Laine, McCartney added Jimmy McCulloch on lead guitar and Geoff Britton on drums to the Wings line-up in 1974. Having written several new songs for the next album, McCartney decided upon New Orleans, Louisiana as the recording venue, and Wings headed there in January 1975.

BADFINGER - BEAUTIFUL AND BLUE (1970)

Album:  Magic Christian Music (1970)

My friend Zender Millar had this album at his house when we grew up.  It is one of the first records I ever heard around age 8 or 9.   He eventually gave me the record about 10 years later but in the meantime due to the Beatles connection Badfinger would be one of the first bands I was exposed to and really loved.   For a long time I said they were truly the worlds greatest "rock and roll" band.

Badfinger were a British rock band consisting originally of Pete Ham, Ron Griffiths, Mike Gibbins and Tom Evans; active from 1968 to 1983, and evolving from The Iveys; formed by Ham, Griffiths and David "Dai" Jenkins in Swansea, Wales, in the early 1960s. Joey Molland joined the group in 1969, following the departure of Griffiths. Signed by The Beatles' Apple label in 1968 as The Iveys, they adopted the name Badfinger in 1969. Badfinger had four consecutive worldwide hits in 1970 and 1971: "Come and Get It" (written and produced by Paul McCartney), "No Matter What", "Day After Day", and "Baby Blue". The Ham/Evans-penned Badfinger song, "Without You", became a Billboard number one hit for Harry Nilsson.

Magic Christian Music is an album by band Badfinger, released in early 1970 on Apple Records. Three tracks from the LP are featured in the film The Magic Christian, which also gives the album its title. However, Magic Christian Music is not an official soundtrack album for the film

THE BEATLES - I'LL FOLLOW THE SUN (1964)

Album:  Beatles For Sale (1964)

I first heard this song on the US album release Beatles '65 (1964) in approx 1982.

I'll Follow the Sun" is a song by The Beatles. It is a melancholy ballad written and sung by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon–McCartney It was released in 1964 on the Beatles for Sale album in the United Kingdom and on Beatles '65 in the United States, but was written long before that year: a version recorded in 1960 can be found in the bootleg record You Might As Well Call Us The Quarrymen. The song is somewhat of a cult favourite; it was released as a mono extended play 45 in 1964 on Parlophone/EMI (and in 1995 as a B-side).

HILARY DUFF - LITTLE VOICE (2003)

Album:  Metamorphosis (2003)

February 14th 2005 - my #4 favorite daily song for 35 days at age 34 while living with Michelle/Brianna.  I later went to see Hilary Duff in concert by myself and was the only middle aged guy surrounded by sexily dressed 10 year old girls.

"The Little Voice" is a song recorded by Swedish pop rock singer Sahlene. The song was written by American songwriter Kara DioGuardi and Patrik Berger. Released as her first solo single in 2000, the song picked up significant airplay in the Scandinavian regions. It peaked at number fifty-one on the singles chart in Sweden

American pop singer Hilary Duff recorded a cover of the song for her first album, Metamorphosis (2003). The song was released as album's third and final single, only outside the United States. Duff's cover has different lyrics and was renamed "Little Voice".    The song performed moderately in Australia and Netherlands. In Australia, the song peaked at number twenty-nine and in Netherlands at number eighty. A music video released, containing footages from Duff's "The Girl Can Rock" tour.  Buena Vista Records and Disney released the CD single in Australia on June 15, 2004; it included an exclusive track, a dance remix of "Party Up". The song reached number twenty-nine in Australia
PAUL McCARTNEY - SPINNING ON AN AXIS (2001)

Album:  Driving Rain (2001)

I bought this as a new release in December 2001 at age 30 living in Dalmeny, SK now selling on ebay for 3.5 years

Driving Rain is the twelfth solo studio album by Paul McCartney, recorded and released in 2001. It was his first studio album since publicly announcing his relationship with former model and anti-land mines activist Heather Mills, whom he married in 2002. The cover of the album was taken with a wristwatch that had a built-in camera.

Driving Rain features many songs inspired by and written for Heather. Clearly determined to follow the example of Run Devil Run's brisk making, Driving Rain—except for two songs—was cut with David Kahne co-producing in two weeks, starting in February 2001 and with a set of new musicians whom McCartney intended on backing him on tour.   In November 2001, Driving Rain was released to generally strong reviews but stunned many with its very low sales, especially considering that McCartney's previous studio album of original material, Flaming Pie, was a Top 2 hit in both the US and the UK. Maybe due to the lack of a hit single to support it, Driving Rain peaked at #46 in the UK and became McCartney's lowest selling album in his homeland. The US reaction was a little stronger, though still underwhelming, with the album making #26 and going gold. Once again, there were no major US singles for McCartney and his new album.  Beginning in April 2002, the "Driving USA" tour—a massive success which would lead to worldwide tour extensions—was launched. After a nearly ten-year break and a difficult period in between after losing Linda, McCartney was back on the road and enjoying himself again

ROY WOOD - SHIPS IN THE NIGHT (1987)

Album:  Starting Up (1987)

I had been a huge fan of ELO for a while and knew of Roy Wood one of the founding members.  On February 14th 1985 at age 14 (grade 9) I flipped through the bargain bin of records at the Kresge's Department Store in Midtown Plaza shopping mall in Saskatoon and found this new sealed album Mustard priced at 99 cents.   The first time I heard this album that night I knew I had found a masterpiece and Roy Wood would be the first act to ever debut at #1 on my daily favorite music groups chart on that valentines day.  (I declare this to be Roy Wood day).  I bought a used copy of his first album Boulders a week later at Nudon Record shop on Louise & 8th Street.  I flew to New York 17 years later to see Roy Wood 3 times in concert and got to meet him backstage 2 times.  I have posted some of those video performances I filmed on www.youtube.com

December 1st 1992 - my #3 favorite daily song for 8 days at age 31 living in Dalmeny, SK with Marilyn now selling on ebay for 4.5 years

Starting Up is the fourth solo album by Roy Wood, who played most of the instruments and sang most of the vocals throughout, in addition to writing and producing the album. ‘On Top Of The World’ featured strings arranged and conducted by Louis Clark.  'Under Fire' (1985) and 'Raining In The City' (1986) were both previously released as singles

KEVIN RUDOLF feat TI - LET IT ROCK (2008) hit #5
Let It Rock" is the debut single of Kevin Rudolf from his debut album In the City. It features rapper Lil Wayne. The track was produced and written by Rudolf.

In the U.S. and Canada, the song reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, number #6 on the Pop 100 and #2 on the Canadian Hot 100. The first week, the song debuted at number 45 on the Australian Singles Chart and reached number 3. In the United Kingdom, the song climbed to number forty on physical release but due to an increase in airplay, due to BBC Radio 1 adding it to their A-list, the song climbed thirty places to number 10 in the song's second week on the chart; then it rose to number 5 the following week. "Let It Rock" was number 28 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2008.

"Let It Rock" was certified Triple Platinum by the RIAA on May 5, 2009. As of July 2011, the song has sold 4,000,000 digital downloads, making it Lil Wayne's third 4-million-seller

The song's chorus is sampled in the Iyaz song "Damn They Hot", which features Rudolf himself. The song is also sampled and incorporated into Natasha Bedingfield's song "All I Need" from her album Strip Me; this song also features Rudolf

Kevin Rudolf (born February 17, 1983) is an American rock singer-songwriter, rapper and record producer signed to Cash Money Records. His breakthrough song was his 2008 debut single "Let It Rock" featuring Lil Wayne, which was certified Triple Platinum, and reached #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, #5 on the UK Singles Chart, #3 on the Australian Singles Chart, and #2 on the Canadian Hot 100. His second studio album To the Sky features the platinum hit single "I Made It" featuring Lil Wayne, Jay Sean, and Birdman which peaked at 21 on the US Hot 100 and number 11 on the Digital Singles Billboard Chart. Rudolf has won three BMI awards.

    SUPERTRAMP - FOOL'S OVERTURE (1977)

Album:  Even In The Quietest Moments (1977)

February 5th 1987 - my #1 favorite daily song for 3 days.  I heard this song play late at night on an FM channel and found it was Supertramp playing the theme to the W5 TV show which I had heard for years.  I quickly went to my record collection at age 16 to find it and yes I had it as I had already amassed over 1000 records by this point.

Fool's Overture" is the closing track from Supertramp's 1977 album Even in the Quietest Moments. Written and sung by guitarist/keyboardist Roger Hodgson, the song is a collage of progressive instrumentation and sound samples. First there are excerpts of Winston Churchill's famous June 4, 1940 House of Commons speech regarding Britain's involvement in World War II ("Never Surrender"), and later sounds of police cars and bells from the London's Big Ben clock tower are heard. Piano and saxophone parts of the catchy upbeat section are borrowed from Traffic's song 'No Time to Live' are slightly altered as well during the slow parts. The flageolet-sounding instrument plays an excerpt from Gustav Holst's "Venus", from his orchestral suite The Planets. There is also a reading of the first verse of William Blake's poem "And did those feet in ancient time" (more commonly known as "Jerusalem"), ended by a short sample of the band's song "Dreamer".

Even in the Quietest Moments… is the fifth album by progressive rock band Supertramp, released in April 1977.   The album was recorded mainly at Caribou Ranch Studios in Colorado with overdubs, vocals and mixing completed at The Record Plant in Los Angeles and was Supertramp's first album to use engineer Peter Henderson, who would work with the band for their next three albums as well.   Even in the Quietest Moments reached #16 on the Billboard Pop Albums Charts in 1977 and within a few months of release became Supertramp's first Gold (500,000 copies or more) selling album in the US thanks to "Give a Little Bit" being a US Top 20 single and reaching number 29 on the UK Singles Chart. While "Give a Little Bit" was the big hit, both "Fool's Overture" and the title track also got a fair amount of FM album-rock play
JANNECKE - LET IT GO (2012)

Amazing country song written by Norwegian female singer Jannecke now based in Saskatoon.

I performed in her band for a few shows in 2012 including performing this song which I think is her best recording.

She recorded this as part of a 4 song recording session in Nashville in 2012.

THE BEATLES - THINK FOR YOURSELF (1965)

Album:  Rubber Soul (1965)

Think for Yourself" is a song by English rock band The Beatles which first appeared on their 1965 album Rubber Soul. Written and sung by George Harrison, it is a warning against listening to lies, and the first of Harrison's songs not to be a love song. In his book I Me Mine he writes, "But all this time later, I don't quite recall who inspired that tune. Probably the government." In a departure from all precedent at the time, the song has two bass lines, a normal one and one created by Paul McCartney's then-unique application of a fuzzbox to his bass.

The song is in the key of G major, but its musical premise appears to be permanent tonic key ambiguity and restless root movement (musically echoing the title) through extensive borrowing from the parallel G minor. Thus, the G7 introduction appears to ground us in G major (G Mixolydian); yet the verse soon opens ("I've got a word or two") with a ii chord (Am) that suggests we are in A Dorian mode or even A Aeolian mode with the following move to a Dm chord on "word or two" being a iv rather than a v in G major. The immediate shift to B♭ chord (♭III in G major) on "to say" and the C chord (IV in G major) on "about the things" again confuses as the Bb and C chords seem to hint at a ♭Vi- ♭VII rock run in D Aeolian. When we arrive at the chorus ("Think for yourself...") the anticipated tonic-identifying V-I (D7 chord-G7 chord) shift, is preceded (pointedly on "Think") with a strange ♭VI (E♭/B♭)chord in second inversion that undermines its tonal direction. This overlapping of major and minor harmony and restless root movement is an intriguing characteristic of Harrison's songwriting as far back as Don't Bother Me

ALAN PARSONS PROJECT - THE RAVEN (1976)

Album:  Tales Of Mystery And Imagination (1976)

September 19th 1989 - my #4 favorite daily song for 1 day at age 18 in 1st year University at St Peters College in Muenster, SK.

The Raven" is a 1976 song by the Alan Parsons Project from their album Tales of Mystery and Imagination. The song is based on the Edgar Allan Poe poem of the same name. It is well known as being one of the first rock songs to use a vocoder, developed by EMI, to distort vocals. It is also one of the few songs by the band featuring the vocals of Alan Parsons. The 1987 reissued version of the song contains a guitar solo near the end, before the "nevermore, nevermore, never" refrain and a few licks between the lyrics. Actor Leonard Whiting performs the lead vocals.

In 2004 the choral band Gregorian made a cover of the song for their "The Dark Side" album.

Tales of Mystery and Imagination is the debut album by the progressive rock group The Alan Parsons Project, released in 1976. The album's avant-garde soundscapes kept it from being a blockbuster, but the interesting lyrical and musical themes — retellings of horror stories and poetry by Edgar Allan Poe — attracted a cult audience. The title of the album is taken from a popular title for a collection of Poe's macabre tales of the same name, Tales of Mystery & Imagination, first published in 1908 and reprinted many times since.

    ABBA - RING RING (1973)

Album: Ring Ring (1973)

Ring Ring is the debut studio album by the Swedish pop group ABBA. It was released in Scandinavia and a limited number of other territories, including West Germany, Australia, South Africa and Mexico, on March 26, 1973 through Polar Music. The album was a chart-topping album in Belgium, and a big success in Holland, Norway and South Africa.

The album was re-released in Australasia in 1975, but was not released in the United Kingdom until 1992, and the United States until three years later. The re-release artwork for the album (see below) uses the name "ABBA", although at the time of the album's original release, the name ABBA had not yet been coined, and instead was awkwardly credited to "Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Frida". Ring Ring was first released on CD in Sweden in 1988; a West German CD release followed in 1990 (later released internationally). The album has been reissued in digitally remastered form three times; first in 1997, then in 2001 and again in 2005 as part of the The Complete Studio Recordings box set.

When the first song "People Need Love" was recorded in the spring of 1972, the group was just one of many projects the four members were involved in. Only after the title track, "Ring Ring" became a hit, did the four decide to go on working together as a permanent group.
