Some of the following info is fact but I am also going to include many of my theories to put together the missing pieces of this confusing puzzle.

Jim Shooter said that approximately 1 million copies of Star Wars #1 were sold in 1977 in various printings - here is my breakdown to get to that number !

COVER A - #1 - 1ST PRINTING - NEWSSTAND EDITION - 30 cent - UPC bar code -  Distributed by Curtis Circulation (CC) and sold to newsstands (grocery, confectionary etc) but returnable - so no excess copies saved unless dealers kept copies and paid for them for back issues.   Doug Sulipa said this was the only version he ordered and he believes its the most common.   The CGC census lists it with the most copies graded by far compared to all other printings - this is due mostly being to being a 1st printing and the most in demand but also seems to show that its quite common as there are so many high grades existing.     Terry estimate copies sold: 250,000 copies.   I believe up to 250,000 is believable as a new hyped Marvel #1.   But highly doubt it could be higher as their was no movie yet released and no Star Wars mania yet.   I doubt I bought the 1st printing as I likely sought out a copy after seeing the movie so my first personal copy at age 6 was possibly a bagged version in August 1977 as it debuted in theatres in my city of Saskatoon, SK, Canada on July 20th 1977.   In the last 20 years Heritage Auctions has sold amost 600 copies of this version.  Ebay has sold thousands and thousands of copies.   At any given day Ebay has hundreds of copies listed for sale.   This is the most common newsstand printing.  Printed March 12 1977 / at Newsstands Apr 12 1977 / Cover date expiration July 1977.
COVER B - #1 - 1ST PRINTING - DIAMOND PRICE LOGO EDITION (WESTERN/WHITMAN) - (DOES THIS EXIST ?)  30 cent - UPC bar code -  Distributed by Western/Whitman mostly to department stores.  Not returnable so unsold copies would have survived in clearance sales and into dealer inventories eventually.   The CGC census does not specifically list this printing separately so no way to know if any are graded.  This comic is a mystery as it was never sold in a Star Wars comic bag set but may have been sold in a random 1977 Marvel comics bag set (yet none has ever been identified).  Two sites show a picture of the cover and I have spoken to a few collectors who claim they once had a copy.   Yet there are NO copies listed on ebay and NO copies sold on ebay recently.   Heritage Auctions has NEVER sold a copy of this version.   If this was a mistaken printing and should have had a blank UPC box then its likely very few copies made it to market.  If its a counterfeit I don't see any benefit of the expense of designing this new cover as the comic had not much value at all when it would have been counterfeited.  To this date most collectors dont even know about this version and would just sell it as a regular #1 and possibly even as Reprint #1 since it has a "diamond logo".  Since we don't know where it was ever sold and no copies are on the market it appears to be the rarest of all #1 printings.  Since we don't know when it was sold it may not have come out the same time as the newsstand 1st print making this possibly a 2nd printing timewise.   Terry estimate copies printed if legit for bag sets:  1,000 copies.   If printed at the same time as the newwstand edition then dates would be approx:  Printed March 12 1977 / at retail Apr 12 1977 / Cover date July 1977 but would sit on shelves eternally until sold.

COVER C - #1 - 1ST PRINTING - NEWSSTAND EDITION - TEST 35 cent edition - UPC bar code -  Distributed by Curtis Circulation (CC) and sold to newsstands (grocery, confectionary etc) but returnable - so no excess copies saved unless dealers kept copies and paid for them for back issues.   The CGC census lists only this issue individually since it is by far the most valuable version of this comic therefore many collectors seek out this specific version.  CGC has now graded 290 copies in all grades combined.   There are two 9.6 copies.   Terry estimate copies printed: 1,500 copies therefore its possible that less than 1,500 actually ever sold.     Ebay generally sells a dozen copies a year.   At any given day Ebay on average has 1 copy for sale.  This is the rarest of all the newsstand printings of #1.

Carlos writes:  In 1977 Marvel experimented with a higher price run of their comisc to see if a 35 cent comic would sell.  The 35 cent Star Wars #1 with UPC code (or Newsstand cover) is the rarest of all Marvel newsstand issues.  Approximately 1,500 were printed with only an estimated 400 surviving to date and only a handful of those being in NM/MT condition.  Sol Brodsky, former head of Marvel Comics, in a letter to a collector of these rare issues stated that the 35 cent run of comics #1-4 published between June 1977 and October 1977 were distributed to only 6 test market cities in North America:  Memphis TN, Toledo OH, Tuscaloosa AL, Wilmington NC, San Antonio TX and Los Angeles CA.

Fact:  They were not published between June 1977 and October 1977 but in fact those are the cover dates meaning they actually came out March to July 1977.   DC and Archie had already raised their prices to 35 cents on comics in April 1977 (cover dated July 1977).   Star Wars #5 released to stores in August 1977 (cover dated November 1977) already had an official 35 cent copy.   Therefore I dont see any logical reason for the 35 cent variants to be released later than the regular 30 cent editions proving Sol Brodsky's dates are cover dates and not release dates.

If printed and released at the same time as Cover A:  Printed March 12 1977 / at Newsstands Apr 12 1977 / Cover date expiration July 1977.

COVER D - #1 - 2ND PRINTING - NEWSSTAND EDITION - 30 cent - REPRINT PRINTED ON COVER NEAR PRICE - UPC bar code -  Distributed by Curtis Circulation (CC) and sold to newsstands (grocery, confectionary etc) but returnable - so no excess copies saved unless dealers kept copies and paid for them for back issues.   Doug Sulipa said he did not order any of the reprints as he had ordered lots of the first printing.   The CGC census lists Star Wars reprints all in one bulk listing without seperating them which means including actually 4 or even 5 different cover variations under one listing.  Print run was likely decently high as copies surface quite often.   This would be the first reprint printed to cash in on the big surprise success of the film in the summer.   Since it has a 30 cent cover price it seems likely that it was released before Marvel raised cover prices to 35 cents.  Meaning at the latest a July release (October 1977 cover date - unfortunately they did not change the cover dates on any reprints). Terry estimate copies potentially sold: 100,000 copies.   But anywhere from 50,000 to 200,000 is potentially possible.  By the end of August the movie had been out for 15 weeks and was now at its 11th week at #1 at the box office leading to be the biggest movie of the year and decade.  Heritage Auctions has not sold many due to most reprints considered to have lower values.   Ebay has sold thousands of copies.   At any given day Ebay has approx 10 copies listed for sale.   This is the earliest printing to say REPRINT on the cover and likely came out in July or August (3-4 months after the 1st printing).

Possibly at newsstands in July or August 1977 before comic prices were raised to 35 cents and to capitalize on the biggest movie of the summer.

COVER E - #1 - 3RD PRINTING - DIAMOND PRICE LOGO EDITION (WESTERN/WHITMAN) - 35 cent - UPC bar code -  Distributed by Western/Whitman mostly to department stores. Only Carlos website shows a picture of the cover and I have spoken to a few collectors who claim they once had a copy. Since we don't know where it was ever sold and no copies are on the market it appears to be possibly the rarest of all #1 printings.  Since we don't know when it came out it could be anywhere between a release date of August and December 1977 which is the time period that all the 35 cent editions would have been sold.  This copy has not been identified to have been sold in any Star Wars bag sets nor any random Marvel comic bag sets.   Terry estimate copies printed if legit for bag sets:  5,000 copies.

If printed at the same time as the #5 1st printing newsstand edition then dates would be approx:  Printed July 12 1977 / at retail Aug 10 1977 / Cover date November 1977 (however July is listed on cover)

COVER F - #1 - 4TH PRINTING - DIAMOND PRICE LOGO EDITION (WESTERN/WHITMAN) - 35 cent - REPRINT listed on cover near price.  Blank white bar code box -  Distributed by Western/Whitman mostly to department stores.  Not returnable so unsold copies would have survived in clearance sales and into dealer inventories eventually.   The CGC census does not specifically list this printing as it bulks every reprint variant in one listing.  This is the earliest printing of #1 definitely confirmed to appear in a Star Wars bag set including new printings of #1, 2 and 3 but for the first time ever with a blank white bar code box.   Since we don't know when it came out it could be anywhere between a release date of September and December 1977 which is the time period that all the 35 cent reprint editions would have been sold. Terry estimate copies sold in 150,000 bag sets.   Heritage Auctions has not sold many copies of this as the reprints generally have a lesser value.   Ebay usually has 20 copies

If printed at the same time as the #6 1st printing newsstand edition then dates would be approx:  Printed August 10 1977 / at retail Sep 13 1977 / Cover expiry date December 1977 (however July is listed on cover)

COVER G - #1 - 5TH PRINTING - DIAMOND PRICE LOGO EDITION (WESTERN/WHITMAN) - 35 cent - Does not say reprint on the cover but does on the inside indicia..  Blank white bar code box -  Distributed by Western/Whitman mostly to department stores.  Not returnable so unsold copies would have survived in clearance sales and into dealer inventories eventually.   The CGC census does not specifically list this printing as it bulks every reprint variant in one listing.  This is the 2nd version of #1 definitely confirmed to appear in a Star Wars bag set including new printings of #1, 2 and 3 with a blank white bar code box and no mention of reprint on the cover.   Since we don't know exactly when it came out it could be anywhere between a release date of September and December 1977 which is the time period that all the 35 cent reprint editions would have been sold.  My estimate is that this is the last printing ever of Star Wars #1 in 1977 and came last and was marketed in bags for the Christmas market and stores would have overstocked it leading to potentially the highest print run of any version of #1.  This would also explain why this is the sealed bag that the most copies have survived.  Terry estimate copies sold in 300,000 bag sets.   Heritage Auctions has not sold many copies of this as the reprints generally have a lesser value.   Ebay usually has 20 copies for sale on any given day.    My estimate is it was released around November for the Christmas market.

If printed at the same time as the #7 1st printing newsstand edition then dates would be approx:  Printed October 1977 / at retail November 1977 / Cover expiry date February 1978 (however July is listed on cover)

MARVEL SPECIAL EDITION FEATURING STAR WARS #1 - COVER A - #1 - 1ST PRINTING - NEWSSTAND EDITION - $1.00 cent - UPC bar code -  Distributed by Curtis Circulation (CC) and sold to newsstands (grocery, confectionary etc) but returnable - so no excess copies saved unless dealers kept copies and paid for them for back issues.   The CGC census does not grade treasury sized comics so no data on graded copies.  The Treasury format was popular in the mid 1970s so this is likely the best selling Marvel Treasury ever.  It obviously came out after the first 3 comics were released so this may potentially have come out at the same time as #4 1st printing (July release, October cover date)     Terry estimate copies sold: 150,000 copies.   Ebay has sold thousands of copies.   At any given day Ebay has over 20 copies listed for sale.   This is the most common printing of this treasury.

https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Marvel_Special_Edition_Featuring_Star_Wars_1  website states:   Marvel Special Edition Featuring Star Wars 1 collects the first three issues from the Marvel Star Wars series of comics; it has a publishing date of August 1977 and a $1.00 cover price. This is an Oversized 10 x 14 inch Treasury sized comic, which were very popular and common in the 1970's. The pages are twice the size of the original comic books, but the height of each page is slightly less in comparison. This means that many of the comic book panels have been cropped at the bottom, and many of the characters feet, which were visible in the original version, are cut off. No ads except one house ad for Marvel Special Edition Featuring Star Wars 2 with art by Tony DeZuniga. This issue was published in two versions, One by Marvel Comics, the other by Whitman Publishing. The Whitman version has the "W" logo replacing the Comics code logo, but the rest of the comic is the same.

MARVEL SPECIAL EDITION FEATURING STAR WARS #1 - COVER B - #1 - 1ST PRINTING - WHITMAN EDITION - $1.00 cent - UPC bar code -  The only difference between the 2 versions of this treasury is that this printing has the big W Whitman logo above the price.   The CGC census does not grade treasury sized comics so no data on graded copies.  The Treasury format was popular in the mid 1970s so this is likely the best selling Marvel Treasury ever.  It obviously came out after the first 3 comics were released so this may potentially have come out at the same time as #4 1st printing (July release, October cover date)     Terry estimate copies sold: 100,000 copies.   Ebay has sold thousands of copies.   At any given day Ebay has over 5 copies listed for sale.   This is the rarer of the 2 printings yet both are quite common.

MARVEL SPECIAL EDITION FEATURING STAR WARS #3 - COVER A - #1 - 1ST PRINTING - NEWSSTAND EDITION - $2.50 cent - UPC bar code -  Distributed by Curtis Circulation (CC) and sold to newsstands (grocery, confectionary etc) but returnable - so no excess copies saved unless dealers kept copies and paid for them for back issues.   The CGC census does not grade treasury sized comics so no data on graded copies.  The Treasury format was popular in the mid 1970s so this is likely the best selling Marvel Treasury ever.  It obviously came out after the first 6 comics were released so this may potentially have come out at the same time as #7 1st printing (November release, February 1978 cover date)      This is the rarest of the 3 Star Wars treasuries mainly due to the hefty cover of price of $2.50 which in 1977 was the cost of 7 regular comics (inflation approx $20.00)  It would make sense that this final treasury reprinted the entire movie saga of issues #1-6 in time for the Christmas market.   I did get my copy of this around Christmas time when I was age 6.       Terry estimate copies sold: 50,000 copies.   Ebay has sold hundreds of copies.   At any given day Ebay has over 5 copies listed for sale.

MARVEL SPECIAL EDITION FEATURING STAR WARS #3 - COVER B - #1 - 1ST PRINTING - WHITMAN EDITION - $2.50 cent - UPC bar code -  Distributed by Whitman. Terry estimate copies sold: 40,000 copies.  It seems on average the Whitman versions are a bit less common than regular newsstands. Ebay has sold hundreds of copies.   At any given day Ebay has a couple copies listed for sale.

COVER A - #2 - 1ST PRINTING - NEWSSTAND EDITION - 30 cent - UPC bar code -  Distributed by Curtis Circulation (CC) and sold to newsstands (grocery, confectionary etc) but returnable - so no excess copies saved unless dealers kept copies and paid for them for back issues. The movie still was not released yet as it debuted in limited theatres on May 25 1977.  #2's always are ordered less than #1 and no Star Wars mania yet.   I doubt I bought the 1st printing as I likely sought out a copy after seeing the movie so my first personal copy at age 6 was possibly a bagged version in August 1977 as it debuted in theatres in my city of Saskatoon, SK, Canada on July 20th 1977.  Ebay has sold thousands and thousands of copies.   At any given day Ebay has hundreds of copies listed for sale.   This is the most common newsstand printing.  Printed April 1977 / at Newsstands May 10 1977 / Cover date expiration August 1977.
COVER B - #2 - 1ST PRINTING - DIAMOND PRICE LOGO EDITION (WESTERN/WHITMAN) - 30 cent - UPC bar code -  Distributed by Western/Whitman mostly to department stores.  Not returnable so unsold copies would have survived in clearance sales and into dealer inventories eventually.   This is now called a "multi-pack" bag version which came in the original orange colored 79 cent bag containing copies of #2, 3 and #4 all with newsstand bar code but with a diamond shaped logo.  These are extremely rare and this early bag must have been quite limited and much smaller printing than the later more common "Star Wars" bags.  To this date most collectors dont even know about this version and would just sell it as a regular #2 and possibly even as Reprint #2 since it has a "diamond logo".  Jim Shooter said they would not reprint covers and that books were all printed at the same time.  However this could be questioned if its truly a 1st print since it would have to have been pre-planned starting with #2 to wait till #3 and #4 were released before bagging these comics for market.   Terry estimate copies printed if legit for bag sets:  5,000 copies.   If printed at the same time as the newwstand edition then dates would be approx:  Printed April 1977 / ready for retail May 10 1977 however not marketed until July when it was shipped in the #2-3-4 bag. / Cover date August 1977.

COVER C - #2 - 1ST PRINTING - NEWSSTAND EDITION - TEST 35 cent edition - UPC bar code -  Distributed by Curtis Circulation (CC) and sold to newsstands (grocery, confectionary etc) but returnable - so no excess copies saved unless dealers kept copies and paid for them for back issues.   The CGC census lists only this issue individually since it is by far the most valuable version of this comic therefore many collectors seek out this specific version.  CGC has graded very few copies in all grades combined.

If printed and released at the same time as Cover A:  Printed April 1977 / at Newsstands May 10 1977 / Cover date expiration August 1977.

COVER D - #2 - 1ST PRINTING - UK PENCE PRICE VARIANT - 12 pence - UPC bar code - In the UK only issues #2 3 4 5 of Star Wars were published with a UK price variant.  Since it is believed that these were all 1st prints released at the same date as the USA 1st printings it reminds me of how the USA "multi-pack" bag version which came in the original orange colored 79 cent bag also started with #2.  The UK versions are scarce and would have much smaller printings than the regular USA printing of #2.  Jim Shooter said they would not reprint covers and that books were all printed at the same time.  Terry estimate copies printed might be 25,000 copies (or 1/10th of the USA printing)   If printed at the same time as the newwstand edition then dates would be approx:  Printed April 1977 / ready for retail May 10 1977. / Cover date August 1977.

COVER E - #2 - 2ND PRINTING - NEWSSTAND EDITION - 30 cent - REPRINT PRINTED ON COVER NEAR PRICE - UPC bar code -  Distributed by Curtis Circulation (CC) and sold to newsstands (grocery, confectionary etc) but returnable - so no excess copies saved unless dealers kept copies and paid for them for back issues.   Doug Sulipa said he did not order any of the reprints as he had ordered lots of the first printing. Terry estimate copies potentially sold: 50,000 copies.   But anywhere from 25,000 to 200,000 is potentially possible.  By the end of August the movie had been out for 15 weeks and was now at its 11th week at #1 at the box office leading to be the biggest movie of the year and decade.  Heritage Auctions has not sold many due to most reprints considered to have lower values.   Ebay has sold thousands of copies.   At any given day Ebay has approx 5 copies listed for sale.   This is the earliest printing to say REPRINT on the cover and likely came out in July or August (3-4 months after the 1st printing).  Possibly at newsstands in July or August 1977 before comic prices were raised to 35 cents and to capitalize on the biggest movie of the summer.

COVER F - #2 - 3RD PRINTING - DIAMOND PRICE LOGO EDITION (WESTERN/WHITMAN) - 35 cent - REPRINT listed on cover near price.  Blank white bar code box -  Distributed by Western/Whitman mostly to department stores.  Not returnable so unsold copies would have survived in clearance sales and into dealer inventories eventually.   The CGC census does not specifically list this printing as it bulks every reprint variant in one listing.  This is the 2nd version of #2 to appear in a "multi-pack" bag including new printings of #1, 2 and 3 but for the first time ever with a blank white bar code box.   Since we don't know when it came out it could be anywhere between a release date of September and December 1977 which is the time period that all the 35 cent reprint editions would have been sold.  Since there is no date we can not verify if Cover F or Cover G came out first.  There is no difference at all to the comic interior pages, or interior ads or the Star Wars bag they were marketed in.  The only difference is whether the word REPRINT is written in the top left corner.  However even the version that does NOT say Reprint is STILL a reprint / later printing.  So my theory unable to prove is that the #2 newsstand reprint that says REPRINT and this bagged version that says REPRINT would likely have been printed at the same time as the design for reprint is identical and I do not believe it has ever been used on any other Marvel Comics except other printings of #1-6.  The one problem though is they have different cover prices so cannot prove this for sure.  Terry estimate copies sold in 150,000 bag sets.   Heritage Auctions has not sold many copies of this as the reprints generally have a lesser value.   Ebay usually has 20 copies loose for sale and a few copies of the bag still sealed.  If printed at the same time as the #6 1st printing newsstand edition then dates would be approx:  Printed August 10 1977 / at retail Sep 13 1977 / Cover expiry date December 1977 (however July is listed on cover)

COVER G - #2 - 4TH PRINTING - DIAMOND PRICE LOGO EDITION (WESTERN/WHITMAN) - 35 cent - Does not say reprint on the cover but does on the inside indicia..  Blank white bar code box -  Distributed by Western/Whitman mostly to department stores.  Not returnable so unsold copies would have survived in clearance sales and into dealer inventories eventually.   This is the 2nd or 3rd version of #2 to be sold in a Star Wars bag set including new printings of #1, 2 and 3. Blank white bar code box and no mention of reprint on the cover. Terry estimate copies could be as high as 300,000 bag sets.  My only reason for stating a high number is that so many of these later bags have survived and so many loose copies of this printing are found for sale.
